A bridge in Baltimore has collapsed

A container ship hit the Francis Scott Key bridge over the Patapsco River overnight. The bridge then collapsed with up to 20 people actually still on it. Not only is this a disaster for those people who are in the water but it is a nightmare for businesses and the community as the bridge is a major piece of infrastructure for transporting goods, materials, and people. This event certainly won't help people who already have a fear of bridges.

I’ve been following this and it’s terrible. That is a very long bridge and I remember it being a lot of lanes wide, there will be a lot of cars in the water and many fatalities. So heartbreaking!

This is was in our newspapers early this morning when I got up. I hope they can save those still missing. Today will be a difficult day for all those who need to cross the bridge.

They said on the news that the bridge was 1.6 miles long. I've been on that bridge, it seems very long--I also looked it up because I am always curious, that bridge took over 5 years to build. It will take at least several years to rebuild it.

@LadyDuck I have never liked big bridges. I always think it's from being on the Lake Pontchartrain Bridge when we lived in the south--I hated it so much, so, so very long. When this ship hit the bridge, there is footage on TV of it hitting it and the bridge falling in the water. It was dark, of course. But oh, so terrible.

Oh my! That's horrible. I hope the people will be all right and Baltimore can get the bridge rebuilt soon.

I heard about that. My mother gets scared when she drives on bridges. I know I'm bad, but I often tease her about it. I hope they get it repaired soon.

Add it to the list. The Sunshine Skyway was the one I remember the most. I still haven’t been on that bridge since that happened, 44 years ago. PS: I don’t know where they got the “20” number. Baltimore TV stations have never reported any more than seven (the official “missing” count as of this typing is six missing).

Yep just posted about this myself, I wish all the best for those people, Luckily it was not a time when the bridge was car to car but still tragic all the same,
