Women's Rights ~ My Thoughts on This Subject

Women have been fighting for their rights for many decades. Right to be treated with respect, to be paid a fair wage, to hold the office she is educated to hold, and, to have the right to do with her body as she sees fit. They finally got the vote in 1919. Women were able to go to school and get a higher degree of learning by the 19th century and were in the workplace by the mid-70s. But, women don't make what men do. I doubt they ever will. Jennifer Lawrence is the highest-paid actress in the world today yet she makes millions less than her male counterpart.
Now women are being made to have those children that they were impregnated with by rape. I think that is unholy. If there is a God he needs to strike these men down who made such a law. I firmly believe that women should have the right to make their own personal decisions about what happens with their bodies and that includes abortion. It shouldn't have to do with religious or family beliefs but the woman herself. It is no other person's right(even another woman) to tell a woman what she can and can't do with her own body. Even religious women should see the right in that. Let a woman make this very private choice on her own without being sanctified. When will that insanity end?
When a woman got married her vows used to read, "Love, Honor and OBEY." Ugh! But, at least someone has changed it to now read, "Love, honor, and cherish."
Laws have just recently been made to protect women from domestic abuse. The Office on Violence Against Women didn't come into effect until 1995. It is a federal law protecting women, even the victim's identity. It covers various forms of abuse, including physical, emotional, sexual, and financial abuse. This act has been renewed in 2005, 2013 and 2022. I think that teaching a man to respect a woman and not to put his hands on her should begin at home.
.
Women holding federal office. An article on fivethirtyeight.com, says:" Over the course of the country’s history(about 248 years), only 44 women have served as governors, and there are 20 states where a woman has never held the top office". Kamala Harris is the first woman(a black woman no less) to hold the office of vice president of the United States. Many women have held the office of CEO of many companies but not many in higher political offices.
This is where I see a thin line to be crossed. I am a feminist yes, but, I also believe that a true gentleman should respect a woman and should open the door for her, pay for their first date, walk on the outside of the street, use the "Mam" and "Maddam" in some social settings, and treat a woman with respect no matter how she is dressed. Yes, I am a traditionalist and these rather antiquated rules of decorum are hard for me to let loose of.

I don't care about ma'am but I'm also not from the south.
No one should have the right to tell me what I can do with my body--and especially not a group of older men. F straight off. When they can get pregnant and have to deal with all of that then *maybe* they can get back to me.
Men shouldn't have more rights or benefits than women. Oh Republicans don't want to pay for birth control? Fine. Then we shouldn't pay for the little blue pills because they can't get it up. If it is "God's will" for someone to have a baby then it is also "God's will" that you are limp and impotent.

You said it. We need to stand strong and hope that others will do the same.

You are right. We should have the right to do with our body as we choose. Very personal.

@LadyDuck .......No, they certainly don't. If there is a God I don't think he would think much of these types.

@celticeagle Those old men pretending to write laws know nothing about women.

I totally agree that there should still be gentlemen and ladies respecting each other and being polite, I do not like women who are too aggressive and act more like guys than gals,

Respecting each other is a good thing. Aggression is not good coming from a woman.

I agree. I don't want kids. I think women should have abortions if they want.

Good for you! I'm so glad to hear a women be honest and say this. I certainly wouldn't want to have children in this day and age either. And abortion is a very personal thing that women should have the right to decide on for themselves. It's hard enough to do without laws that make it just that much more difficult.

Imagine how things are outside the US, way worse. I also notice more female politicians here but a trend that some religious sects, which apparently came from sects in Poland where every Saturday of each month, since the last year, men kneel on the main square and pray to be more protective towards the woman and pray that women obey them more scares me. Police permits them and it is sick.
Abortion here isn't illegal, i feel, there is no record in the law but since many doctores are men, they would turn woman's opinion into nonsense and pressure them to have a conscience and won't help them in that, putting that fake moral suit.
I like your opinion that a woman should be treated with respect no matter what she wears. Many times when i stood for myself, i ended bullied so, respect for me is lost and i am very surprised when men are nice to me,even suspicious but i experience that from older men;holding doors or just saying thank you. I wish i lived in older times, to feel some better treatment. I would like also that women support women but in my experiences, they were the first to fail me but i still support them in front of the men.

It's good to hear that abortion is legal there. I think that women should have a choice. American men should take a lesson from those religious sects. I'm sorry you feel respect for you is lost. I hope that will change.

I think the old traditional values of holding a woman in high esteem should always be in effect. Have a good weekend.
