I wrote the grocery list but I did not send it. I´m waiting for the last brilliant thoughts I´ll have tomorrow and maybe I can add a couple of other things to it. Almost every time I ask for groceries I remember something else the moment I send the list. So tonight I will "sleep" with it and I might or might not add something. The only important thing is there: Thursday´s dessert for my brother. But I prepared a list to last me for the whole month so I even asked for Luna´s dog food. I could spend less in food. I have discovered that I buy too many yummy extras. One could live with less salami, cheese and cream. I´ll have to think if I really have the means to spend in all that. I will edit my grocery list before I send it. Do you do that?

It seems like most often now, we all have to go with what the basic food needs are first if we cook at home--flour, sugar, baking needs, meats, vegetables, produce, etc. That's all on the list first. More often than not, the ''needs'' take most or all of the grocery money, and there isn't room for ''wants'' very often, like desserts and ice cream, etc. I do the needs first, of course. If there is anything left, I can get a want or two. I make one massive trip every month for things that can be refrigerated/frozen and get all of that. The rest of the month is fill in with produce and dairy, for the most part. I think we all juggle our lists now.

My only luxuries in this time of my life lies in food. And I buy rather expensive food when I have visitors. But I can eat very well with almost no expense when I´m alone.

It is harder too stick to the money we have when we pay with cards instead of real money.

I stopped buying cured meats because those things have become ridiculously expensive. I should cross the border and go buy salami and ham in Italy.

I am buying less of those for the same reasons. And worse still, I prefer the 2 most expensive brands. Now I buy salami or ham, depending on what ideas I have for using them. Ham has to be eaten sooner than salami.

@marguicha The Prosciutto di Parma here is so much expensive and it's not even the best. The next time I go out o Italy to collect our magazine, I stop at the store near the Customs and I buy some Parma Ham, they slice the quantity you like, it is so much better the one sold under plastic.

@LadyDuck The ham I like can be sold sliced the way you like but only if you go to the supermarket. Sometimes I go and buy a sort of steak to make quiche Lorraine.

@wolfgirl569 I try to do that but I have to fight against temptation. I bought a lot of chocolate cakes last year telling myself that I would save money in a shrink because my daughter was not talking to me. Lately I decided to accept the facts of life. It is her loss. I have other people that love me. I won´t buy so many chocolate cakes.

@marguicha I use my card as I earn rewards. But I stick to my budget so it's easy to pay in full each month

The only time I might edit a shopping list is if it's looks like it will all be too heavy for us to bring home.

I am now shopping online so that is not a problem. But yesterday I added "tempura onions" and "frozen fried sweet potatoes" to my list. Today I checked the price and deleted them. They were very expensive.
