Happy Eclipse Day! Enjoy it, because we won’t have another one until 2045. Gee, by then I’ll be doing 100-year-old songs. Not today, though, I’m only going back to 1984 and 1954 for my birth month. Here’s today’s song from 40 years ago. Jump - Van Halen Look at that screen grab. Wasn’t Eddie Van Halen so cute??? In fact, the only person I don’t find “cute” is the one trying to hog the camera in every frame of the video. I’m a Sam Halen fan more than the Diamond Dave era (Scar and his Hoomin will back me up on that). But dang this is a fun song to listen to or roller skate to. Just as long as I don’t have to watch David Lee Roth. Jump Written by Eddie Van Halen, David Lee Roth, Alex Van Halen, and Michael Anthony Recorded by Van Halen From 1984, 1984 I got my back against the record machine:

Although I had known of Van Halen for a while, I didn't "get into" them until about this song (probably because of 80s videos). I was in jr high where 80s music and videos made a huge impression on me . . . so I guess I could never replace David Lee Roth with Sammy . . . BUT I do realize how David Lee Roth did overly ham it up for all the attention . Eddie is definitely the talent . . . and he was the smiley guy .

The great thing was that I didn’t have to see the video when I was at the skating rink.

Hot dog, I’m cooking with gas now! Just come back to this one ‘cause today’s 1984 song is country.

That is a catchy tune that rocks! Even with David Lee seeing how high he can "JUMP" and preening in the music video. Fun facts: The lead instrument on "Jump" is a synthesizer, played beautifully by Eddie Van Halen. He was classically trained on the piano growing up and the instrument made that song "pop" right up to #1.

I read that Eddie originally played drums, then he heard Alex messing around on them and said, ”There’s your instrument!”

Classic and always will be. In fact I can't name another Van Halen song Wolfie Is a chip off the old block. Maybe he will come up with something.

My favorite VH song is “Dreams,” which had Sammy Hagar on lead vocals. Probably the fact that they used the Blue Angels in the video makes me like that one.

I loved roller skating to this, but I never tried to jump on skates when they said “jump!” in the song. I knew my limits on skates.
