Oldest Man and Woman

I enjoy hearing who the oldest people are in the world. Gives me hope I guess. They give the silliest reasons for having lived so long. George Burns lived to be 100 and says he had a cigar every day of his life. The oldest man in the world, John Alfred Tinniswood, lives in Southport, England. He is the holder of the men's title by Guinness World Records. He is 111. His verification came after the death of Juan Vicente Perez living in Venezuela who was 114. Gisaburo Sonobe from Japan was the next to the oldest at 112 but died in March at the age of 112. The oldest woman and oldest living person is Maria Banyas Morera of Spain. She is 117.

There are no secrets for getting old and reaching the age of 100. Both my grandmother and great grandmother reached the age of 100 and 102. They always ate what they loved, but always cooked their food, often using fresh products from their gardens. I think it's genetic.

@LadyDuck I agree with you about genetics. Sure, a good diet and lifestyle can improve your lifespan as well as your quality of life, but when it comes to hit and go above 100 then there has to be more.

@sabtraversa My mother, grandmother and great grandmother surely did not buy "take away" food, but I they surely ate what they loved and often I wondered how they could digest some things she ate. I am sure that genetics count for more than we can imagine.

Sure is. I'm so curious I'd live that long gladly as long as I was still able to take care of myself.

@kobesbuddy ......I know how that is. I am very sensitive to stress and I get ill. I get a rash, nausea-- It isn't pretty or fun. I hope you are better than me.

The oldest man lives in England, as I do, so there’s hope for me. He puts his longevity down to nothing but good luck. He doesn’t smoke or drink and likes fish and chips every Friday. No mention of women! Apparently there is a man in Peru claiming to be older (114). This has yet to be verified. Shame for John if he has the title snatched away.

I saw a story awhile back where a woman who was around 103, said that one thing she liked was to drink a can of Dr Pepper soda every day for years.
