Thursday Coffee Talk

Happy Thursday Everyone! the word for today is "rain" It's a perfect day for me to read my book. I belong to an online book club and there's so much hype about Kristen Hannahs new book The Women. The story revolves around the nurses who were in combat during the Vietnam War, Certainly heroes in my opinion and since the story takes place in the late 60s to early 70s it hits close to home for me. During that time I was graduating from high school and going to nursing school myself, got married and started my family. I have to say, that so far the book lives up to the hype and I'm only halfway through. Before I escape into my book I have to make a grocery list. My son and his family are coming for a visit on Sunday. I haven't seen them in over a month and excited to hear all about their vacation and hopefully see lots of pictures. Now I have to decide what to feed them....cook or get pizza. We always seem to do pizza but it's just so easy and something everyone likes. I guess I just made my decision as I was writing this. This week seems to be going by pretty fast. Some days I feel like I'm just enjoying my morning coffee and the next it's time to make dinner. How's your day going?

I got married in 1971, the Vietnam War and the atrocities committed during those times is something I still remember very well. The nurses and doctors who were in combat those days are hero.

This book brings back so many memories of that time for me too. Since it revolves around the nurses who were in combat it gives a different perspective and how hard they worked under dire circumstances and how make-shift their operating rooms were. So many casualties. Yes, the doctors and nurses were heroes for sure.

@LadyDuck that's pretty much what's happening in this book I'm reading. The casualties are astronomical and not enough supplies, doctors or nurses to help the injured.

@Marilynda1225 Those were horrible times that we hoped never to see again, but look at Ukraine and Gaza strips, it's happening again.

It's nice to read with the rain pitter pattering outside. Ah, you were a nurse? Pizza does seem to solve meal dilemmas - and no one complains about pizza. Enjoy family time this weekend! The day seems to be going smoothly today . . . I do have to think about making dinner, but it won't be pizza tonight .

@Marilynda1225 Out here it seems like pizzas are super expensive now, so we don't have it too often. Oh yes, boys can eat A LOT!!

Pizza always works for us. My grandsons eat like horses so it's cheaper to order pizza than cook.

Pizza is always good. If there is quite a crowd you can get a few different ones so that everyone is catered for.
