My latest project

Back when I lived in a boat, I used to have a lot of plant hangers, because there was basically no space to put the plants anywhere except hanging up, and they were in vogue then so easy to find. And I still have the hangers and most are still in use around the house. But I’m sure I have another stored away somewhere and I just can’t find it now that I want it! I wanted to hang up my rosary vine that is getting longer and longer. I looked for the hanger, to no avail, then I hoped it would just turn up when I was looking for something else, but still no luck. So in the end I was forced to give up. I looked at buying one, but then I changed my mind and decided I would have a go at making one instead, after a bit of online research I decided it didn’t look that hard. I bought a 50 m ball of cotton macrame cord and found some step-by-step instructions for an easy design. I haven’t tried macrame since I had a very brief attempt in school needlework. Of all the crafts I've done, I never tried macrame. And being a shorty, if I ever hung plants I'd have to step on a stool or chair to water them. The window sill above the kitchen sink is high enough.

We still have a kiddie step-stool in the kitchen - that's for me to reach the top cupboards

@Fleura As do I but I need a stepladder to clean the tops of the cupboards, or to change lightbulbs in ceiling fixtures.

@Fleura Well, if wearing granny glasses counts and love beads counts, then I was a hippie

I have only done it a little. I remember a yarn plant hanger mom tied, pre macrame days. I think I duplicated it at one point, but that was over fifty years ago. I wonder if I still could.

I haven't done macrame but the woman across corners from us does some lovely work. We couldn't find one of Vince's nitro sprays a few days ago but it turned up today while we were looking for something else.

Isn't that always the way? I hoped it would turn up but maybe I just haven't been looking for the right other thing!

@fleura I have a similar issue with too many plants and not enough surfaces on which to place them. I will not be seeking a solution in macrame, but well done you. Such hangers always bring spider plants to my mind. Very 70s.

About the only 1970s 'thing' I would consider (apart from yogurt I guess). I hated flares!
