Sorry I wasn’t here last night. I was busy watching the devastation in suburban Nashville. Plus I was blindsided by recording engineer Steve Albini’s death. I have a doctor’s appointment in an hour, then it’s feet up, relax, and…oh, who am I kidding. I’ll be up dancing to songs like this 50-year-old “gem.” Kung Fu Fighting - Carl Douglas You have to give it to 1974: that year gave us some of the most HATED songs of the last 50 years. “The Night Chicago Died,” “Seasons in the Sun,” “(You’re) Having My Baby,” and “Billy, Don’t Be a Hero” are on the “universal pukers” list. So’s this song, but I like this tune. It was Carl Douglas’ only hit, which some say is a good thing, And this DID give us one of the classic memes: “Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting.” So sue me. I like this one.
