Laying block is a vital part of the construction process. It is probably the most important step, when building a new home. If the foundation isn't properly done, it won't be able to withstand the weight, of all those building materials.
With a firm, stable foundation, everything else is securely held in place. I had this explained to me, not too long ago. It's not a hurry up process, that can be completed in a day or two.
Today, Steve took his equipment to our lot, but one machine wasn't working properly. Thus, he called Jay and they met for lunch at a restaurant, to discuss matters. It's OK, one more day won't matter

My son and his wife bought a home, it's about 150 years old. It's as straight as the day it was constructed:)

Yes, the construction of the home will be done by us. We needed to hire a man to dig the foundation and another man to lay the block foundation. We will hire a roofing company, to do the roof. Everything indoors, my husband and I will complete it.

@Rimps85 Jay worked in the building business for over 20 years. He did estimates and blue-prints for customers, on a computer. This is the first home, he has built.

Happy to hear that the building process is underway.
Such an exciting time for you both, I'm very happy for you Kharla.
You are so right about the foundation, my cousins run the family contractor business in the Detroit area that my great uncle started decades ago. They do good work to still be working 3 generations later.

@kobesbuddy That is such love for their work that they can inspire the next generation.
My Dad's cousin, Charlie, passed away one night after his secretary left for the day, and was found the next morning by her, still at his desk.
I'm sure that Charles Jr. will retire before that happens.
Their company name is C.E. Gleeson Constructors Inc, they are out of Troy, MI

And we have two families in our area, who have passed down their building businesses, also. Ulman Builders and Hemphill/Schirmer Construction. The next generation is taking the reigns, while their fathers finally get some relaxation!

My father built our home in about three months. For us, it has been a year in August! That's when we purchased the lot.

You must be so excited. Did you and Jay design the house..or just pick a construction design? That is one thing I have never done..had a house built. This was new construction when I bought it, but I had no hand in the design.

@kobesbuddy Yeah, when my parents built their house..my dad did the blueprints. One thing I always liked about their house which was a simple design but effective was a laundry shoot that went directly into a laundry cart downstairs.

Jay does blue-prints. So, we designed the floorplan together. I said what I like, he either agreed or told me what might not work. Jay worked with contractors building homes, from his office. He did takeoffs on a computer.

No, you don't want to rush something like foundation. It's a process.

@kobesbuddy Now that the foundation is being laid, it won't be long. You might even be in your new home by your anniversary.

We had it all mapped out, to be in our new home within four months. That four months turned in six, and then into 12 months. It will be a year on Aug. 11th, since we signed the final paperwork. This was our Wedding Anniversary, 2023:) We told the other couple this, their reply, "oh, really?" It was OK, at least we handed her husband the big check!

It sounds like Steve encountered a minor setback with one of his machines today, but it's great to hear that he's addressing the issue promptly. A quick lunch meeting with Jay to discuss the matter shows their dedication to getting things right. After all, taking an extra day to resolve any issues now will pay off in the long run.
