One Tourist Too Many

In the days before WW II so very long ago when my mom was still going to university in Riga, Latvia she spent her summers in Austria. Not far from Vienna her aunt and uncle had an inn in the mountains. She told me how she enjoyed trips to Vienna particularly to enjoy the Prater, an amusement park. That is why it surprised me to learn today that Vienna, Austria is the most overcrowded tourist destination. A study discovered that for every local resident in Austria, there are 3.6 tourists. Austria opens its doors to around 32 million visitors each year. All these tourists look forward to seeing Vienna, the capital known as the “City of Dreams”. However, I can see that it can quickly become the city of nightmares with so many people crowded in to see places like the Schonbrunn Palace and the Vienna Opera House. The restaurants must be crowded just so people can get a taste of Vienna’s famous cake Sacher Torte. It is a delicious chocolate cake but you don’t have to go to Europe you can make it yourself or get it online. If you want to enjoy your vacation and not stand in eternal lines then for now you should bypass Vienna. I thought you might like to see a photo of the chocolate cake

It was not crowded the last time we visited, but it was 10 years ago. I love their Sacher Torte.

@snowy22315 my thought was that it could be crowded in Salzburg because even after all these years people still remember that The Sound of Music was filmed there

That's a lot of visitors. I don't care for so many people around. I have heard that Austria is supposed to have some of the best chocolate foods. I think going on vacation in the off-season is best. There are fewer people and prices are probably lower.

Vienna should establish a crowd control policy or law when it comes to the ingress and egress of its tourists.
