Shocking news in my country.

One of the main authorities in my country is now informing us that the giant fire this summer in Valparaiso who left many dead and many people with no homes was really arson and not a natural fire. And what is worse still, this fire was started by a fireman. Today he was aprehended although it seems that there are more people involved. This is when I forget all my ideas against death penalty! Those people do not deserve to be fed by all of us for years. And maybe, years from now, the person will be let free as it happens so many times. In my country laws do not punish enough the people who do something wrong. And the older I get, the more I think that the people who do wrong should be punished more. How is it in your country?

This happened big time in the US years ago. A fire investigator in California set over 2000 fires. He is in prison for life, he killed several people with his fires...he is the biggest serial arsonist in US history. An arsonist who was an arson investigator! I am sorry your country has one, but at least he was caught. Hopefully, the rest of them will be as well.

@MarieCoyle After reading what you sent, I continued listening to news. And I dicovered that these evil people had used the same MO that Leonard Orr had used. In the case of Orr, they have written books and made movies. That is, as I see it, someone is "teaching" others how to start a fire. There should be laws that forbid people from writing about this, with so many details about how to do it. If you read the Wikipedia about Orr, the article might be longer than one about a scientist or a known artist.

@marguicha I know that there have been TV shows and a documentary about Orr, and how he did it, how he set the fires and got away with it. Honestly, I agree with you! It simply teaches others how to be evil! And yes, the Wikipedia on Orr was very long and involved. He destroyed so much, and took lives. Got away with what he was doing for years--they never thought to look at an arson investigator as an arsonist. What's sad is that the way to do this reached so far, and that is how your fires were started. Some things just need to not be announced, broadcasted, or published for people to continue to do evil things.

It's often firemen who turn into arsonists. You have to wonder what pleasure they get from it.

This fire last summer must have been done by more than one person. It started from four corners.

Rapist should get more time or be castrated. They get out and do it again. Not cool!! Same goes for murder'ers, arsonists, and theft. Punishment is not up to the crimes and people don't care anymore...they do what they want whether it is right or wrong. i think a couple generations missed the mark on learning manners, right from wrong, and common sense.

@marguicha Right! And of babies too. So sickening and heartbreaking. Those really need to be castrated and to sit in jail for much longer!

I wholly agree. It has been scientifically proved that rapists will do it again and again. Yet in my country they spend a small time in jail (if) and are let out. What is worse still are rapists of small children.

That sounds bad. Thoughts and prayers for the family of the victims. Hope you are safe there too.

Such a shame to think that a fire fighter could start a fire even after getting paid always by the money of the people.

In my country firemen work for free. But arson is evil.

@HaruLoid No. Our firefighters are volunteers and they want to stay that way. And they don´t charge for putting off a fire either. This is why for me it is so very shocking. In my country we are used to consider firefighters heroes. They have some days where they have collections to buy uniforms and the like. And there are other ways to get their big trucks.

That is very tragic indeed, Let's just say most of the jails are overcrowded here in the US,

He is a monster. They say the investigation is open and that there might be more people that helped him. I´d BURN him!

So many of the fires are arson. I don't think the perpetrators are punished severely enough.

By no means. Many of the people who lost their homes are still homeless. Yet they will be comfy in jail with warm food in winter.
