Beautiful and breezy here on the patio at the restaurant. It’s nearly June, which will mean the start of meteorological summer, the start of the Atlantic hurricane season, and the start of the 60-year-old song list. But first, three more great songs from 1974! Here’s today’s song. #3: Someone’s Been Telling You Stories - Dan Fogelberg Earlier in the countdown I used a Stevie Wonder song and talked about his “classic era” in the 70s. Lots of artists had a “classic era” then. Dan Fogelberg was no exception, with his lovely triad of Captured Angel, Nether Lands, and this album. Souvenirs was the middle of the three. It’s my favorite Fogelberg album by a mile. While it has his typical “mellow ballad” material (the title song; and, to a lesser degree, “There’s a Place in the World for a Gambler”), it also has a bite to it. How and why he pegged Joe Walsh to produce this, I don’t know, but it worked. Perfectly. Backed by Walsh’s future bandmates (this was 1974, Walsh didn’t join the Eagles until 1975), Fogelberg sang this “I’m being lied about” song splendidly. You can hear the anger in his voice. I miss Dan Fogelberg. Someone’s Been Telling You Stories Written by Dan Fogelberg Recorded by Dan Fogelberg From Souvenirs, 1974 He’s gone solo again:

I"m not familiar with Fogelberg's music at all; but this is a good song. Have a great day.

You probably know his big hit (which isn’t nearly as good as the one I used)….

@LindaOHio — definitely. “Longer” is way too syrupy for me.

Dan the Man. Although remembered for his many melodic tunes, Fogelberg could rock it out of the park on occasion. Songs like "Part of the Plan," "Power of Gold," and "Phoenix," counterbalanced his more mellow tunes like "Longer," Leader of the Band" and "Same Old Lang Syne." More remembered for the latter ones, Dan's "Souvenirs" was his breakthrough thanks to Joe Walsh's direction as producer. I also enjoyed listening to his double LP "The Innocent Age" although not a critical success there are some great tunes on that one. Actually, for me, there wasn't any LP of his up to this1980 release I didn't like. I was saddened by his passing from prostate cancer in 2007. Many of his songs touched me in a spiritual sense as if he was speaking to me directly through his music. As you can see, a big fan and one of my favorite artists to listen to along with Gord, The Eagles, Jackson Browne, and James Taylor to name just a few of the best singer-songwriters of the 70's.

I don't like the sound of 'start of hurricane season'. It's raining here and will for a few days yet. The farmers are doing a happy dance.

They’re forecasting a busy season, so many people don’t like it.
