To save some cash, start by setting up a budget to keep an eye on your spending. Look for ways to cut back on non-essentials like eating out or impulse buys, and keep an eye out for deals when you're shopping. You can also save on utilities by being mindful of your energy use and trying to cook at home more often. If you drive, consider carpooling or using public transport to save on gas. Try to limit using your credit card too much to avoid those pesky interest charges. Selling things you don't need anymore and trying out some DIY projects can also help you save. And don't forget to set some goals for your savings to keep you motivated!

@annierose It's right. As a country has its budget, so does a family and an individual. And most importantly, it's always good to have a budget. Cutting down on expenses is also like a medium of earning. Actually, there are so many ways that we end up purchasing more even if we don't need to have those things. After reading all the discussions here, what I learnt is that unnecessary expenses are quite too much. And there are dozens of things that we can cut down on our expenditure.

@abhi_bangal Absolutely, Abhijit! Having a budget is crucial, and you're right—cutting down on unnecessary expenses can feel like earning extra money. It's amazing how much we can save by being more mindful of our spending.

I make a list of what I need to buy and stick on my list. Before any more importante expense, I sleep one nigh and ask to myself if I really need what I am going to buy. Cook your food at eat at home, it's a lot less expensive than ordering food.

Even I'm into a habit of making a list of what I need to purchase from the market. However, I buy the things I don't need, giving them the priority. And ignore the things I need in my daily life. But this doesn't strike while buying stuff. I'm enlightened when I return home

@abhi_bangal - You must refrain to buy what you do not need.

@LadyDuck Yeah and that's exactly what I'm trying to do these days. If I look back and see, I have grown a habit of buying those things that I need at least once or twice only. And they just keep lying around in my home. So yeah, this is one habit by that I have to refrain from.

Don't buy what you don't need. That one seems obvious to me but is, apparently, an unusual concept If there's something you want but don't need then make sure you've got the things you need first. Another one is to look out for cheaper versions of things. Be careful of false economy, though. E.g. a cheaper brand of something but where you actually get less or buying multipacks of things that will go off before you use them. We've been buying, for example, shop's own brand beans and other things for a while now. They all taste pretty much the same. It seems silly to buy the expensive brands when you can buy 10 of a cheaper brand for the same price as one of the expensive brand. I'll always look for deals on things as well. There are various loyalty programmes or discount websites (of course you need to be careful that they're genuine). And I will compare different things.

As I mentioned in one of my comments here in this discussion, we buy and dump those things that we really don't need. At times, we are forced and lured into buying things we would hardly use. There are some marketing tricks to do that. Well, let them do that. It's business after all. But the thing is we can do with cheaper things instead of branded products. And yes, looking out for deals is something that I never thought of. That's a new addition to my knowledge. Thank you for the same!

When shopping make a list of what you NEED to avoid impulse buying. If you can't afford it, don't buy it. Pay in cash not credit. If you have extra income, better to invest than save. I'm old school.

I totally agree with one of your points - these days what we do is the mall culture is increasing. And due to this reason we purchase those things that would really don't need, because we just see them stacked up. And they look lucrative. So what I believe this, we end up purchasing more even if we don't need a few things. But yes, your other tips were indeed worth considering. Thanks!

Yeah true. There are some kind of investments that are exempt from taxes. Why didn't it strike me before As a matter of fact, these investments are promoted by the governments also. So, it's kind of safe too. Thanks for reminding me this important information.

There is only that matters in my world. Live below your means and save and invest what you don't use. That and, pay yourself first. Also, invest wisely and make it so that you live off the proceeds of your money rather than the principal.

I can't more than agree with you - live below your means. That's so rightly said. It gives us so many ways to save money and also save for the rainy day. Also, I liked the idea of not investing in what we don't use. When I open my cupboard, I see a few things that I bought and used just once or twice. That's it. Now, they are just sitting in my cupboard. And occupying space. Wise investment can easily give you the proceeds leaving the principle aside. This way, the proceeds will increase with an increase in the principle as well. So many things rightly said.

@abhi_bangal Money makes money. So, it makes sense to make it once and let it make the rest for you later rather than spending it all and having to constantly work for more.

I think one needs to keep impulsive buying in check. Make a list when you go out Grocery shopping. Brand loyalty is not a bad thing but sometimes, lower priced brands also have almost the same quality products at lower prices. Operate AC at 25 or 26 C especially if the outside temperature is 38 C plus. Carefully see all T & C in the Car Insurance policy and go for a better deal the next year if required. I will share more tips going forward.

To be honest, buying only the necessary things we need, not buying this unwanted items from a mall, cutting down on expenses, looking out for deals were some tips that I have read. But how about operating the AC at 25 or 26? What's the logic and idea behind this? And yes, do share more tips as well. I'm sure I'll get to know something new.

Most of my expenses are my fixed rent and food. Currently, I hardly buy clothes and shoes because when my income was good, I bought a lot of clothes and shoes. When I go to the supermarket to buy food, I will choose the cheaper foods I want to eat, such as meat, vegetables, and eggs, which are essential. I usually don't buy expensive food if it's not necessary. I also buy cheaper fruits that are more popular. All ingredients must be fresh and hygienic

If you are travelling to office , use any of the carpooling service .If outside, either public transport or cycling. Fix a budget for discretionary spending and never exceed that budget. In case , some items are getting expensive , use alternatives such as lesser expensive body gels or soaps. Use of a better savings account which has a higher rate of interest. That's all I could think
