It's so nice to see Boo again! Now that he's visiting every day, his fur is starting to shine again. He met me today at 5:30A, quite early in the morning. I wasn't fully awake but he certainly was!
I feel so sorry for feral cats. They have no permanent place to call home. When he moves in beneath our picnic table, this makes me smile:) It's shaded and a quite comfortable place for him to lay.
This morning, Boo let me pet him on the head! It's the first time he trusted me, to do this:) Before, he'd shy away and then take off. Now, he views me as a friend:)
I fed him right away and two other cats showed up for food. Both of them are tiger striped, feral cats that look a bit better fed. Some of them might have a family home.
Anyway, when they beg I give them some vittles.

@kobesbuddy Yeah, that's what make them Ferial. Strays on the other hand, tend to be more friendly around people and don't fear them.

Most feral cats are wild, they can't be touched by people.

@kaylachan Most of these cats live in the woods, eating rodents they find.

@kobesbuddy During my walk I met a lovely small cat yesterday. Today I go there at the same time with food hoping to meet the kitty again.

Did you ever watch Top Cat? I think he thoroughly enjoyed not being a family cat. Some enjoy being out and free while others seem to enjoy being inside. Sounds like Boo is doing fine.

The other feral cats are wild, they don't want humans to touch them. Boo is starting to enjoy being close, with people.

@kobesbuddy I'm sure you felt very pleased too. Isn't it funny how having a cat/dog/horse accept us makes us feel really special?

When he first met me, Boo was stand-offish. He was friendly and would meow. But, he'd never allow me to touch him. Today, I petted his head and he was pleased:)

I was hesitant to start feeding Boo, we really can't afford any pets at this time. I'm not sorry, he has become a very sweet friend!

Those cats are totally dependent upon their surroundings, for food each day. I know they find rodents, not enough to keep them fed all year.

When he first started coming around, I wasn't sure if he had food elsewhere. Yet, he was crying constantly, begging for help. That's when I went indoors and appeared with a small piece of cooked meat. Boo choked, he gulped it down so fast! Now, he eats slowly, since he's being fed each day.

@kobesbuddy early this morning there was the cutest baby opossum on my front porch, I leave food at night for the bigger possums but had not seen a baby. There was not food out there, So I got a handful of dry cat food opened the door slowly not to scare the baby and put the food on a tray, Some hours later when I got up I was happy to see the baby had eaten the food, Today I have some leftovers to put out,

I have a group of about 6 feral cats that come by for food and water. I explained to the apartment supervisor that they are great for keeping the rodent population down and that keeps the situation with diseases under control. They have been spayed and neutered and had their shots so they can't carry rabies to any of the cats that belong to the tenants so they can't complain-besides the fact that their cats should be inoculated and spayed and neutered too. You can tell about the feral cats because they are collared and tagged after being to the vet for their treatments.
My grey and white one is outside my window about 6 a.m. and waits until about 10:30 a.m. for me to come down with their food and water. He (or she) doesn't quite trust me enough yet for me to touch it yet, but it's getting better. I have a LOT of fun watching the crew coming by and munching down on the food. So does Petey and Freya. But with the heat they all wait until it cools down before they come and eat and the spoiled kids climb in the window to watch. (After all when it's over 100 degrees like it is today they look for a cool place to snooze until the temperature drops down again.)
One thing you might do is put an old pillow under your picnic table for him to curl up on. Cats love soft comfortable places to snooze.

We had two cats living beneath our side porch. The problem, they were two males and they made awful noise while fighting! Boo is neutered, he is so gentle, he doesn't want a squabble with other cats.
