Are You a Mixer or Other?

I have noticed that my grandson likes to mix all the food on his plate together. That simply gages me. Although he did mix a bunch of stuff the other day and even he couldn't eat it. His favorite is to mix cottage cheese, tomatoes, sliced cucumbers, sunflower seeds and Cheezits all together. I have to have each of the foods on my plate separate from one another. My grandmother made me eat certain foods but never did she make me separate or mix stuff. So I wondered how common the mixing is and how common are those who like everything separate. Which are you?

Í mix some foods and separate others. It depends on what I´m eating. One of my granddaughters only eats salads one by one. She can´t put two veggies in the same plate.

I think some of the reasoning behind eating separate things is sort of ritualistic also.

We are almost eating similarly... I mean our eating habits. I think it's all about culture, isn't it? There are some foods that need to be mixed. Otherwise you don't get the taste of it.

Casseroles kept my family fed when our daughter was young. We couldn't afford to have a separate slab of meat then something like potatoes on the side with a side of vegies. So it often would be a rice dish mixed with a little meat and some vegies. Maybe cheese sprinkled on.

Oh, yes we enjoyed casseroles too. Chili, roasts, etc.

Your grandson might be a kid. That's why he is mixing all the stuff together. Kids here too do the same thing. But I think they don't do this once they are grown up. And understand how to eat properly.
As for me, I keep things separate. But need to mix a couple of them here and there. But yes, this depends on what's served on the table. Not otherwise.

My grandson is no longer a kid. He will 22 in October. I don't think eating items separately is really 'eating properly' either.

@abhi_bangal .......I think that it can be done either way. The trick is to be sure the food is chewed enough. Did you know that digestion starts in the mouth?

Very well said, eating items separately doesn't really mean one is 'eating properly'. That's why I said we need to mix a couple of items while eating. And that too when there's the need. Not otherwise.

I like my portions separated; but I do like putting mashed potatoes and corn in the same bite. Have a good weekend.

It depends on what I'm eating. There are some foods that tastes better for me when mixed while some I'd prefer to be separate.

Yes, it does depend a lot on what I am eating. Depends on flavors and how they are when combined.

I generally like to keep each food separate on a plate, but if they seep into each other, I won't scream. I just won't intentionally mix them all up together. However, I do like certain bowl meals where ingredients are meant to be mixed up - like over rice.

I don't do it intentionally either.

As a kid everything was eaten separately.
It's not changed much, but certain foods do make good combos like:
-pizza with onions, sausage or pepperoni.
-salads with cucumbers, tomatoes and peppers.
-sandwiches with cheese or home-grown tomatoes.
But no strange food combos, I like my Cheese Its by themselves.
