With the arrival of summer, I have some great memories of playing the many fun kid's games with friends. In giving it some thought, these were the ones I played the most and enjoyed the best.
Favorite Childhood Games:
1. Hide and Seek- this activity was one I played a lot during the summer right up until it was too dark to see anymore. What was great about this game was getting the whole neighborhood involved. We had up to 12 kids at any given time playing, which increased your chances of at least catching someone. The decision of finding the right place to hide, so you could beat the person who was "it" to home base was definitely fun.
2. Wiffleball- As someone who loves the game of baseball this activity didn't need a lot of players to enjoy. I would often use the driveway (we had a garage for a backstop) and compete against my brother or a friend who wanted to play. We would choose our favorite pro teams and I got pretty good at imitating my favorite players batting stances and hitting style.
3. Badminton- a fun game that's easy to set up in the backyard to play. You can just fool around or play seriously and keep score. It's great for developing hand-eye coordination.
4. Tag or Freeze Tag- This activity will keep you in shape! Of course, when you're a kid you have lots of energy to run. Playing this game requires both speed and elusiveness.
5. Horseshoes- this is an activity with no age limit which is a plus. You don't need any athletic agility, so anyone can play. This is another hand-eye coordination activity which also involves using strategy. The rules are simple, and horseshoes provide great social interaction.
***Which of these games were you're favorite and how often did you play? Or did you enjoy a different game activity?
SOME MODERN GAMES KIDS PLAY
-Perhaps you have noticed some of the games children are playing now.
Recognize any of the following ones:
1. Spike ball- It's a game that's played similar to volleyball. A small ball is batted and bounced against a trampoline type apparatus. I often see the kids playing this one on the beach.
2. Cornhole- This is a game where you underhand toss a sand filled bean bag at a target with a hole in it. Points are awarded for keeping the bag on the board and/or through the hole.

@dgobucks226 — I live in Kentucky, where horseshoes are for a different purpose.

Wentzville is near St. Louis, but I haven’t been to the Horseshoe Hall of Fame yet.

I loked games in which I ran. Badminton was not a favorite because I was very bad at games with rackets. So it was a no-no with ping pong, tennis or badmanton.

Then Tag would be one you could excel at...
Many girls enjoyed playing hopscotch, red light, and jump rope. Activities that could be played on the school playground or at home in their neighborhood.

-Tag is believed to date back as far as ancient Egypt and Greece.

@dgobucks226 Also the roots of Badminton date back over 2000 years to an ancient game known as battledore played across Eurasian countries. As we know that modern humans successfully colonized Eurasia between 60,000 and 40,000 years B.C., almost everything was invented in that area.

Oh yes, basketball was one I played when I got a bit older. We had a basket mounted to the garage so my brother and I could play.
Did not think of kickball. We did play that one on the playground at school. Enjoyed that game!

As a kid, growing up in Philly, we played sports; wiffle ball, street hockey (we played on roller skates), basketball. We rode our bikes and skateboards. My brother and I did some stunts, built ramps to jump and whatnot.
I am sure we played tag, hide and seek and other games as well, but mostly it was sports for us.

Excellent additions. I also played street hockey when that became popular. I was a bit older then. I remember getting my first 10-speed bike and riding everywhere on it. Everyone had a bike when I was growing up! We actually made our own skateboards using roller skate wheels. Not as good as the real thing though, but fun.

I rode my bike and skated a lot. There weren't a lot of kids that I knew in the neighborhood; so I don't remember playing any of those games at home. We would play Red Rover, jump rope and Double Dutch in the school parking lot before school started for the day or during recess. Have a good weekend.

@dgobucks226 We had a hill a couple of streets over that we slid down in the winter time. I had one of those aluminum saucers. The hill would turn to ice. Made for quite the ride!

Skating in winter. Forgot about that one. And sleigh riding too. We went to a pond that had frozen over to skate. Lots of fun although I fell a lot... Ouch!

The description you give of the aluminum saucer reminded me of Clark Griswald in Christmas Vacation! I bet it was very fast!
