R2-D2 is dead. I´m in mourning.

Many many years ago we bought a very good yet small gas heater. It was so perfect that we named it. Just like my washing machine´s name is Juanita, the heater was called R2-D2. R2-d2 has been a faithful heater for over 25 years. But today I could not put the gas cylinder. And after trying and forcing, a steel small ball fell to the floor. R2-D2 was dead. As things are never easy, tomorrow is a holiday in my country. So the truck with the gas cylinders won´t be coming. I want to ask the truck driver if it is possible to fix this. He knows of gas besides driving the truck. And we know each other for many years. Meanwhile R2-D2 is dead. Even though it could be repaired, I think, I´m mourning it. I brought the big heater near my room but I have to do all sorts of funny movements to get in and out of my room. And thanks be given that I live alone because I have to shower with the door open. I´ll see tomorrow what can be done. Now it is time to sleep. Sleep tight friends.

R2D2 served for 25 long years .. that is incredible years of services. I hope that it can be fixed and can serve you more. It's really beautiful how you name the things in your house. It must be giving you a feeling of special connection.

Those that I name are the ones I love. The rest are just gadgets. I have other things with a name at home.

@arunima25 My parents never named their belongings either. But I do. But then, I have always had a love story with words. And in my native language I have written and published fictiion and taught Literature in the University.

@marguicha When my elder daughter was young, she would name everything that she owned. Even now she does it for all her favourite things. I don't know from where she got it as a toddler. My husband and I were the only people around her till she was 3. And we don't do it. She got it naturally.

I guess 25 years is a good amount of time for the heater. I hope something can be done for you tomorrow.

@celticeagle But I´ll use now R2-D2 when I have visitors only. The newer one will last me more.

Marco saw it and apparently fixed it. If the ball comes out, he said, the part can be changed for a very small amount of money.

Marco saw it yesterday, fixed apparently but told me that if the little ball came out again, the piece could be changed for a small amount of money. After over 30 years R2-D2 surely needed a doctor. We all do.

@LindaOHio So am I. I´m not yet sure if he needs the replacement of a small part. But after maybe over 30 years, that would be a minor "surgery".

I hope so too. Imagine a "friendship" that has lasted over 30 years maybe.

It is quite distressing when such a handy appliance comes to the end of its natural life. It might just be something small that has broken.

It might be something that can easily be replaced.
