Antique plates for your car do you know anyone who uses them?

Although I hate to admit this, my car can be classified as an antique because it is quite old. It honestly runs well for its age though. It is a Camry and they last forever. I want to get antique plates because if you are just using it for leisure you can get plates for 50.00 and don't have to get it inspected. I would just do it for a short time though as I may have to make some trips that are not leisure based, and I don't want to get a ticket or sweat bullets every time I am out of the area with it. Here, they are pretty chill for the most part and unlikely to pull you over. Every year the cost to inspect this car is outrageous, and I simply don't want to deal with it. I wanted to get rid of it last year, but friend offered to help with the inspection costs. If I could keep the car for another month or two while I saved money it would be good. However, having a car is freedom to me..and if was just driving around here I wouldn't like it. I could talk to friend about it, but we aren't on the best of terms at the moment.
The other thing about getting the car inspected is if there is major work needed the garage that is not too expensive out here takes several days to get the work done. It is pretty awful. I know friend will at least want me to find out what the inspection costs would be..to have all the data, and I agree with that but anything over 200 dollars I would not want to pay. What would you do?

@snowy22315 My hubby would love for us to get a hybrid or an electric vehicle. That would mean me having to cope with all the technological bells and whistles while also driving. I hate that entire scenario- the Echo has a computer under the hood but otherwise is pretty much a 60's car. Has a radio and A/C. I love its simplicity. As long as it keeps going. (Last repair for it was 800.00 for tires and rims and 200.00 for a new battery.)

@sallypup I used to have a Celica. I imagine it is basically the sàme. The only problem is it did not have power steering and that car was miserable in the summer. It had a dark interior as well Sorry, it wasn't a Celica. It was a Tercel. Also, a Yaris is a similar vehicle

Inspections are not mandatory here, but all my cars would likely qualify as antiques except the van. We do regular tags, though.

Tags here are a seperate thing, and I am sure you still need them even if you have to have the antique plates.

Now you have me wondering how much inspections are in West Virginia. They were 5 bucks here and a few years back they dropped inspections totally.

The cost of the sticker is 20 bucks here, but if the vehicle needs work .that is where the expense lies

Those plates are mostly used for car-show cars. Unless your car is show-quality you'll probably get pulled over the first time you drive anywhere. And right there will go any money you may have thought you 'saved' by getting them.

Mostly, but not always. I have seen some around here that definitely weren't show cars. You don't see police much in these parts. It is too far from the town.

Camry's have a really good name here. In fact, all the Toyota models do. My little Hyundai Excel was over 20 years old when we sold it and it was still going like a charm.

There is no cost for an E-check here in Ohio. I just had one of our cars inspected. I don't know what I would do in your situation. Have a good day.
