I have not talked about it in a while, but I have not stopped doing it. That is, the Tuesday Challenge. Basically, every Tuesday, whatever the date is on the calendar, you put that amount into an envelope. After about a year you will have saved somewhere around $1,000 you can use for whatever you want, but of course I always recommend putting it into something that draws interest or dividends. To date, and I started this last October, I have $732 accumulated in my envelope. How much do you have in yours?

I’m at $1059, not including what I will add today.

@porwest I believe I started right around the same time you did. I follow the plan, but also throw in extra money here and there when I have some burning a hole in my pocket.

Oh, wow. That's not a bad loot at all. When did you start the Tuesday Challenge and are you following the plan or just adding what you want?

I'm not sure what's in my cash savings. I don't save a lot in there but put in a small amount each week, adding a little more if I have it. It gets counted at the end of the year and used to treat myself.

Ultimately, anything in the envelope will eventually make it into my investments.

It really is, and really easy to do. It's just one of the MULTITUDE of ways I force myself to save money.

You would be horrified to see my checking account balance. All good. I get "paid" in 2 days.

You never answered my question. I took my wife's 401k when we got married which was worth about $39,000 when we met to about $150,000 in three years, and she started her 401k in the 80s. We met in 2005 and married in 2007. That fund is worth twice that today and she has not worked for Walgreens, where the 401k was from, for over 10 years.

@porwest what is your point? Mind is like $100k which is way more than I would have saved on my own

I haven't heard of a challenge like this. It would be interesting to try if I ever had leftover money lol

If you don't have any spare money, it seems like you need a savings idea of some sort. lol

@JordanLader Well, at least you HAD some and have a plan to get back on track. That's better than most people can say.

@porwest lol I need less bills. We haven't recovered from when my husband was jobless and then he went from weekly paychecks to bi weekly which killed what little savings we did have. We'll get a savings back again at some point lol.

$0 unless you count my envie with a little "stash away" money. I have not touched it but once for a little cash to have on hand on a trip to one of the daughter's in Louisiana for the weekend. That's better than taking out of the savings account!

I like your challenge and we don't do it exactly that way, but we do have money we "pay" ourselves each month in an auto transfer. We treat it as another bill and don't give ourselves a choice. The older we get, the more we see the absolute necessity of saving.

I just deposit my extra cash and then buy a CD of some kind when I have over $1,000 available.

I think my husband's $35 that he had for his shampoo, haircut and beard trim was stolen. I may have to cash another check as I'm pretty cash poor at the moment. Have a great day. Love the celery.
