Rerun? Oh, no. Completely different song from yesterday’s with the same (almost) title. Yes, different songs can have the same title. In fact, I have three songs on my iPod named “Country Boy,” and another three named “Dreams.” So baby dry your eyes, here you go again, and there’s a road up ahead!
Here’s today’s song.
A Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy - The Kinks
And, since this predates the Bad Company song by over a year, you just take a peek at Paul Rodgers and think, “Hmm, did this inspire you?”
The songs have little in common other than the title (and the bands are both British). The Bad Company song is a celebration, while this song is more of a lament.
At the time, the Kinks were oozing band members. Two of them quit during the recording of the album. Ray and Dave Davies, the brothers who have a contentious history themselves, mourned the death of Elvis (“the King is dead, rock is done”) and the possible end of their own band. They were determined to at least finish the album.
The album was finished, and it kick-started a revival in the Kinks’ career, with their biggest successes in the offing with Low Budget and State of Confusion.
The Kinks are just a rock ‘n’ roll memory now, but oh what a career they had.

Written by Ray Davies

Apparently they’re a band you either loved or hated. JJ feels the same way.

That’s why I love reading about backstories of songs. Some are amazing, some are hilarious.

The Kinks were famous, for a short time we listened to their music. I wasn't into them, very much:(

They’re one of those bands that there doesn’t seem to be any middle ground on.

@FourWalls Me too. My entire Indie Music Lemonade playlist is a result of that. But it is weird stuff I will admit. lol Maybe some fodder for a future "series?"

I like this one better than the Bad Company song, but obviously I like them both because they’re on the list.
