Ugh. I had to get up at 0-stupid-30 for an 8:15 podiatrist appointment. Then, when I got home, I saw that one of my favorite actors from the 70s British TV shows I watched had passed away (Kenneth Cope, the British readers may remember Randall and Hopkirk [Deceased]). So I’m having lunch and then going to sleeeeeeeeeeeeeep. Oh, will you look who’s showing up again on one of my countdowns….
Blue Side of Lonesome - Jim Reeves
So NJ Chic? Here he is again. You HAVE heard of him.
Yep, I didn’t make this guy up. I also didn’t make his success up. This made both charts, topping the country charts two years after his death.
The great Leon Payne wrote this heartbreaker. Payne was quite versatile, writing the classic ballad “I Love You Because,” as well as the sinister “Psycho.” And, of course, there’s nothing like Gentleman Jim’s great voice to deliver it.
Blue Side of Lonesome
Written by Leon Payne
Recorded by Jim Reeves
From The Country Side of Jim Reeves, 1962
Also from A Touch of Sadness, 1966
Peak chart position: #1 (also charted #59 pop)
Today’s rock song: “Come Dancing”

There’s 90 more to go, 84 of which you’ll probably not like, either.
