For TV SHOWS I'm going to pick "MONK" which ran on the USA network. On the series, Shalhoub played the role of Adrian Monk, a detective with an obsessive-compulsive disorder. I choose him because of how realistic and just plain funny he was, solving crimes while struggling with this condition. For those who have Amazon Prime you might have seen him as the character Abe Weisman on "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Another hilarious character portrayal by Shalhoub. Yes, Tony Shalhoub has come a long way from the first comedy series I saw him in called "WINGS," where he played the cab driver Antonio Scarpaci. For my MOVIE choice I'm going with the klutzy, inept, French police detective Jacques Clouseau, played magnificently by Peter Sellers in those 1960's Pink Panther series films. Steve Martin also did a reprise of the character in the 2006 version. You might also remember a similar take on the bumbling detective starring actor John Candy as detective "Harry Crumb." Anyway, I picked Sellers for creating such an impressionable character, from his accent to his bumbling slapstick humor, it reminded me of the great Charlie Chaplin. The best compliment for a great comedic film and character performance is when other movie versions copy the original. I know the "Monk" character and the "Pink Panther" Clouseau movies with Peter Sellers are not an obvious choice among favorite TV and movie detectives, but they made an impression on me. So, your turn to play along and come up with a better choice among your favorite TV and movie detectives. I'm anxious to see what "evidence you come up with." Some Source Info: Imdb.com Photo: Amazon

Well, yours are funny ones! My first instinct is to say Hunter and McCall from Fred Dryer’s turn as “Hunter”, originally on FOX. Fred Dryer may have been a good teammate in the NFL, but apparently as a costar he was a pill. Secondly, was the movie with Tim Conway and Don Knotts as bumbling detectives. THAT was a good comedic movie. Now, if only someone could tell me the name of it. It was pretty darn amazing.

@AmbiePam Adding Tim Conway to the cast of the Carol Burnett Show was genius! Enjoy a few chuckles...

Yes, I went funny. Guess I could of went with the Detectives from Law and Order for serious. NYPD Blue with Andy Sipowitz was a great detective show. I remember that movie. The Private Eyes! Great casting, two comedians whose humor and acting I really enjoyed. Fun facts -Monk (Tony Shaloub) won a Golden Globe Award, and three Primetime Emmy Awards for his portrayal of this character.

Monk is great. Jim Rockford was outstanding. Columbo was cool. Love watching Surfside 6 (had a crush on Van Williams).

Yes, Rockford and Columbo were great ones. Jim Garner could play any role, and I would like his performance. Garner in The Great Escape and Support Your Local Sheriff showed his skill and range acting in comedic and dramatic roles! Never heard of Surfside 6. Was that a movie? Fun facts -Sellers was nominated twice for the Academy Award for Best Actor, for his performances in Dr. Strangelove and Being There. He won the BAFTA Award (British) for Best Actor in a Leading Role twice, for I'm All Right Jack and for the original Pink Panther film, The Pink Panther (1963).

@FourWalls Some blasts from the past there. Teen heart throb Troy Donohue. And Diane McBain seemed familiar. Then remembered she was in the movie "Parish" with Donohue.

Lately I've been watching Vera which is a British show. I quite enjoy it although I'm not really into detective shows.

Not familiar with that one. But some of the British series are quite good. I found the series Broadchurch and The Fall to be very good ones. Have to check out Vera.

For television show detectives, pretty much most of them. Dragnet, Perry Mason, Mannix, The Rockford Files, Cannon, Barnaby Jones, Kojak, Columbo all were my childhood favorites. Others that I love include Colonel March of Scotland Yard, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Burkes Law, Ironside, McCloud, In the Heat of The Night, Monk, Psych, Murder She Wrote, Diagnoses Murder, Bones. Murdoch Mysteries and the Mentalist. Still watch many of these on different apps on the tv probably 90% of the time. My favorite genre of show/movie Police detective movies I like Beverly Hills Cop, Untouchables, The Charlie Chan series and movies,

I also a fan of crime mystery series and shows. It's always fun to see how the detective figures it out. Great list btw... Kojak, Columbo, and McCloud were other favs of mine. Yes, the Beverly Hills Cop series was terrific! Fun facts -Sellers was nominated twice for the Academy Award for Best Actor, for his performances in Dr. Strangelove and Being There. Hands down for me, it's Columbo. Just never tire of watching the reruns over and over again.

Columbo is always a great pick. I remember watching the series "Moonlighting" with Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepard. Another comedy-based show with detectives. Fun facts -Monk (Tony Shalhoub) won a Golden Globe Award, and three Primetime Emmy Awards for his portrayal of this character.

@porwest I get that. You want to see what's current, however some of those programs of the past are just as good today as they were then.

@dgobucks226 Monk was one I never watched. Maybe I should. I did like Moonlighting a lot when it was on, but I don't have much interest in the reruns. Not sure why.
