I Am in Trump Country

Which is rather interesting when you think about it. Where I live, this is as blue a city as blue can go. I mean, it's nearly impossible for Republicans to win anything, and there's hardly a Democrat in any local political body here. Yet, along nearly my entire block Trump signs now adorn yards. And it's the same as I go down block after block. All throughout my city in just the past week or two Trump signs are everywhere. The fact that this is a rather recent thing I have seen around here seems to be even more telling. Perhaps it's the botched interview Harris did with Brian Taff on ABC? Or the absolutely incoherent Town Hall she did with Oprah Winfrey? Either way, at least here, locally, there seems to be a massive shift. It's not that I never saw Trump signs around here. I just never so many as I am seeing now. Even in 2016 and 2020. The signs are literally everywhere. In fact, the only place I am not seeing a Trump sign is outside the Pipefitters union building down the street. But of course not. But even that may change. I mean, the Teamsters decided to not endorse any candidate not because they don't support one—when it was learned that 60% of Teamsters members were going to vote for Trump, the union simply decided to sit out an endorsement of anyone. Reality is a hard thing for the media to hide when you see real people in the real world telling a much different story than the one being spoon fed to us. Even the guy across the street from me, who is a union city worker, has a Trump sign.

So what? You are seeing signs. You said you saw loads of them in 2020 and Trump lost. You screamed about Biden not doing superspreader rallies and Trump lost. One little snapshot of one microcosm does not foretell what will happen in November.

@porwest so what is the point other than you think that the # of Trump signs in your area somehow predicts the general election results?

@NJChicaa Did you read the post? It's all in there. I live in a Democrat city. I have a union city worker across the street from me who is a Democrat voting for Trump. The neighbors I am talking about with Trump signs just four years ago had Biden signs in their yards. The Teamsters in a 60% block are voting or Trump. Now, what wasn't in the post are other things I am considering. Anderson Cooper thinks the polls are wrong and has a stronger lead than what is being indicated. I am seeing more and more Trump signs EVERYWHERE, and more and more people wearing Trump shirts and hats. I can count on my fingers ANY signs, shirts, hats or anything with Harris on them. I am not saying these make everything a shoo-in, but once again, where is all this support for Harris? If she's the real deal and Trump's such a big threat, don't you think more people would be shouting out THEIR message? Come on. Be real. As for 2020, it has not been confirmed that Trump lost.

You missed the point. Nothing unusual there.

It's a good sign, pardon the pun that an apparent Harris sugar high is fading and you're noticing in your predominantly Democrat neighborhood a possible shift in Americans sentiment towards Trump. Anyone who has paid attention to our country demise, is not a Trump hater, and questions what they see not what they hear from the media I believe wants a reversal of the last 4 chaotic years under Biden/Harris. Was that the point you were trying to make?

@porwest I don't know, it's hard to figure out how this election good be so close. Seems a good portion of the voting population really hate the man's personality. If he could just be humbler and tone the rhetoric that turn people off and focus on the issues only. But he just can't. If he did, he would win comfortably instead of it being a nail biter.

@dgobucks226 The weird thing is that, even as it was in 2020, I see yard after yard with Trump signs, I see people wearing MAGA hats and shirts. Nearly every single person I talk to supports Trump. I saw a Tump train of about 75 cars driving down 159 yesterday as we were heading back from our camp...yet the election is close? It makes no sense to me.

My hope, through all of this, is that the hype around Kamala Harris is all a media generated ruse. It can't be real, can it?

Signs are built because of the money they paid. So is it money talking there?

@porwest did not know it's for free Don't they give money to those who put up or accept those signs? It is somehow a practice here

@rakski Politicians pay for the signs through campaign donations. Many people who want the signs will also offer a donation. But they are not required to. In fact, I could be wrong, but it would be illegal to sell campaign signs.

Political signs are handed out for free. And people who do not support what the sign says do not put them in their yard for any reason.
