The French Toast that I know of is made by dipping bread slices in milk that has egg and sugar in it with a touch of nutmeg flavour . It is shallow fried and had while it is hot I often read French Toast that has no sugar. I would anyday like what I know and what I do It is an ideal breakfast item with a hot cup of tea. How do you make yours? What you see in the photo is not how I make. Image Credit:

I love French toasts (pain perdu in France ) and I prepare exactly as you described, not always I add sugar in the milk, I serve with powered sugar.

@allknowing I prefer to use sugar after it is fried, sugar easily burns when you fry.

It looks delicious but I'm not sure about having fried food in the morning, although the frying is shallow.

@allknowing It is, probably too heavy for a dessert. But maybe it could work as an afternoon snack.

I only made French toast once, in home economics class when I was in junior high. I love it with strawberries on top.

@allknowing Milk, egg and then the bread. Nothing else. Only when I take it out I add sugar powder and ground cinnamom.

@allknowing Yeah. The bread was dipped in egg only and then fried, and then you added the butter and powdered sugar afterwards.

This is also the way I have learnt to create the French Toast. The only other vairation I learnt is we can decrease sugar levels by varying the sugar quantity used. I have my french toast during breakfast or during tea time. It is a great snack to have as you have mentioned. I love my french toast to be crispy and fresh and well I also had french toast with absolutely no sugar in it. It was still ok to consume although , I prefer the sugar one. The post actually made me think to have one. Enjoy the weekend!
