My Old Ride

A lot of times, you may have noticed, I go through older posts, figuring there are always comments I miss, and hey, if someone took the time to leave them, I may as well take the time to go back and find them and make sure people get paid for them.
One of the posts landed me on a photo I took of my old truck. It was a 2011 Ford F-150. It lasted the least amount of time of any vehicle I have ever owned, only 5 years.
Don't get me wrong. I loved that truck. But it just wound up having too many issues and so I eventually traded it for what I have now, which is a 2018 Ford F-150.
I liked the way it looked, and it drove nice. I just wish it would have performed better.
By the time I traded it in, the head unit which controls the radio, door dings and other things went bad. That would have been a $1000 fix. Plus, it was due for a new set of tires. Another $1200. It had that horrible EcoBoost, and the turbos were going. Another $5000.
The repairs would have equaled a down payment on a different vehicle, so it was simply time for it to go.
Incidentally, my current truck is white, and while I did like the silver when I had it, I may never go with anything but white in the future.
The next truck will be an F-250 Super Duty diesel.

We have a 85 dodge ram van that has nothing major done to it
& STILL runs like a champ, you might want to think about getting 1.

@2ndchances24 Oh yes. I have heard all the jokes. At the same time, Ford trucks have been the best selling trucks in America for the past nearly 50 years. So, surely the jokes can't be true.

True, it is time to let go of the things that needed to let go. On our recent experienced our refrigerator of 32 years acted so weird, this is the second time that it needs repair for 32 years, but the repairman said it was so outdated and we will never find its parts that need replacement... so we bought a new one and it will be delivered tomorrow tuesday.

@porwest Glad the new truck does good. My truck doesn't have a hitch but hubbies truck does. It's the one we used when we had the trailers.

@wolfgirl569 A hitch on mine is definitely a must to pull our camper. Fingers crossed this truck gives me many good years of service. So far so good, knock on wood.

If a car is dirty it will all be visible on a white car lol. But white is a nice color. Hubby has a 2018 Toyota RAV4. Since it’s an Adventure model it is white but there is a wide vertical black stripe in the middle of the hood. Love that! Plus makes it easier for me to identify the car when it’s parked in a parking lot.

@porwest Took me a sec to realize you meant truck lol.
My mom was making a turn either onto or out of a parking lot. She somehow got too close to a yellow pole near the parking lot entrance and that left yellow marks on her car. Her neighbor sprayed wd40 on it and wiped it with bounty and a lot of the yellow came off. Who would have thought that would work?

@lovebuglena Fixed it.
As for WD40, it's a wonder product, almost like duct tape is. lol

I’m starting to think about my vehicle needs for the future, and figure within the next 1-2 years I’ll probably buy me another truck. My boss has a beautiful F-250 Super Duty diesel, and that thing is beautiful, but I’ll probably end up getting another F-150.

If I didn't have the camper, I'd probably drop back into the F-150. But I think a 250 diesel would suit my needs much better these days. Not only would it pull better, I'd get better range and easier access to gas up. When you're 60' long in total, it's hard to find gas pumps you can fit through. At least if I had a diesel, I could run through any truck stop.

White and silver would be the most popular colours here. Incidentally, I read years ago that the safest colour is yellow. Certainly when it's raining heavily, I always thought yellow was easiest to see.

That's a nice looking truck. Maybe you should buy something other than a Ford? Have a good week.

It makes sense to trade with the overall repair cost exceeding $6000 plus. And even if you had spent those , the resale value of the F150 would not have significantly increased. So, thats a well assessed sale you had made. Never drove a truck .I drive a compact car for now. While I lived in the US, I drove a Nissan Sedan .Compact car is economical and helps me to get through parking spaces a lot easier than some of the big cars over here. However, i would keep in mind the assessment you have done , so that I do the same when it comes to trade/sale of any car I own. You have a great day ahead!

One rule I have is if annual repairs equal the equivalent of a car payment or a single or series of repairs equals a down payment...
Time to move on and replace it. Cars are not investments of course, and putting more money into an ever-depreciating asset just doesn't make any sense.
