The Right-Hand Drive Car

Right-hand drive cars shocked me when I initially arrived in Hong Kong. It makes me feel this way at the time because I'm accustomed to seeing things the opposite way around in my nation. I pondered whether switching from right-hand drive to left-hand drive, and vice versa, is difficult. What do you think of it? Image Credit: pbs.twimg.com

It sounds that you need to have a quick search about it.

I am not a professional driver, but it will surely make me find it difficult.

@grenery8 But I still believe that humans can adjust with the changes in their environment.

I don't know ... because I don't drive. But if I can remember it correctly when you have a right-hand wheels it is because there so many right turns in that country.. sorry for the grammar.

Driving is not my forte and I abandoned the idea of renewing my non-pro driver license. You have point. These countries have many right turns as compared to others.

We hired a car in France once and had to drive opposite to what we were used to but it wasn't too difficult.

I anticipate a person who does not have sense of direction will be difficult. I think it needs to be alert when driving the car.

I have never driven in a right hand car or on right hand car roads, and I imagine it would be a bit of a culture shock as well as take a bit of getting used to.

Let me share what had happened to one of my colleagues in Hong Kong. She was hit by a bus because she did not look the left side before crossing the street. I assumed that she got confused at that time.

@Shavkat I imagine it would be rather confusing. We're so used to looking for things in a certain way from a left hand driving perspective.

I have done both. When I first tried it in the US, it was bit awkward for few days. But once behind the wheel, one does not feel much of difference, the traffic sense and direction also changes, so you go with the flow of the traffic.

It was a good thing that you were able to hang on with the difference. I, myself may take time to adjust if I were in their shoes.

@Shavkat Yes, it seems a bit odd to start with. But then you get adjusted. It doesn't seem very tough as others too are following the same rule

@arunima25 Indeed. It is human's nature to change if things had changed. Although not all do not want to change. That is the sad part for some.

I am not good at driving. It has been many years that I drove a car. I was just amazed when I had seen the scenario in Hong Kong before.

You said it right. When I had seen it for the first time, I had also think for some time about it.

One of the reasons I haven't learned how to drive yet is that I don't want to be at the left nor at the right. When I walk, I stay in the middle. I just want to sit in the middle. But yes, I can imagine how difficult it would be to switch sides, it'd feel so strange.

Indeed. I had learned how to drive before, but never polished it. Although I got confused in Hong Kong when crossing the road before.
