Oh, no, this charted on the country charts as well. It’s not an intentional “two-for-one country song” day. I don’t remember it getting airplay on country stations. Oh, well. Linda? Listen with caution. Here’s today’s song from the Hot 100 list.
Rainy Day People - Gordon Lightfoot
Yep, Gord’s back. And you most likely don’t remember this song. Let’s face it, since the song that came out after this, this doesn’t get any airplay. (The single after this one? “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.”)
Yes, it has a country feel to it. A number of Lightfoot’s songs did. I’ve mentioned that my introduction to his music came from people like Waylon Jennings, Bill Anderson, and George Hamilton IV recording his songs and having country hits with them.
With a line like “High stepping strutters who land in the gutters,” how could I keep it off the list? Even with the steel guitar that makes it sound more country than most of the songs on this side of the list.
Rainy Day People
Written by Gordon Lightfoot
Recorded by Gordon Lightfoot
From Cold on the Shoulder, 1975
Peak chart position: #26 (also charted #47 country)
Today’s country song: “Rednecks, White Socks, and Blue Ribbon Beer”
They just pass it on:

Yup, always did love me some Gordon...
And yes, it does sound "country", the country being Canada.

He didn’t say “How’s it going, eh?” ONCE in this song!
Thank you (Canada) for sharing him with the world. He was a true treasure.

You probably liked the title song better, though.

@FourWalls Tony Rice did a good job with the title song. I believe. I'd have to check the album (I have it here) to see what my favorite was from this offering.

I do not remember hearing this song sung by the late Gordon Lightfoot. It is a very nice tune.

Come to think of it, this is a great song for a rain delay in baseball.
