IF — just maybe IF — you’re expecting the Ratt song, sorry. No, today, you’re getting a song that puts the pop in popularity and the cardigan in your sweater. One of the great crooners of all time is featured today, and here he is.
Round and Round - Perry Como
Yeah, yeah. But dang this is a cool song. Yes, you’ll never find a video of it that features Milton Berle in drag (if you didn’t know, one of the members of the hair metal band Ratt was the nephew of Milton Berle, which is how Uncle Miltie ended up in their video), but I’d easily take this to a deserted island any day of the week. This is much more my style than the hair bands. Sorry, all you 80s lovers.
Since we’re having the time change (from music to all-Christmas, all-the-time stuff), you’ll be hearing a lot of Perry Como’s holiday classics. No big deal to me, because I’d rather hear him do “O Holy Night” than that one they play every 28.5 seconds.
So, even though this probably isn’t your style and you’re disappointed that it’s NOT the Ratt song, enjoy the oldie from a time when vocals were king.
Round and Round
Written by Joe Shapiro and Lou Stallman
Recorded by Perry Como
Released as a single, 1957
Peak chart position: #1
Today’s country song: “Sea of Heartbreak”
As it skims along with a happy sound:

A little before your time. (A little before my time, too, but….)

Indeed it is! Waiting for the dealer to call back about a pickup time for the car.
