The Obligatory Happy Thanksgiving Post

Well, well. Here we are again at that time of year when we overindulge in turkey and debate whether pecan pie or pumpkin reigns supreme. Of course, pumpkin wins the prize for me. I really can't stand pecan pie. Granted, we won't have our family gathering for Thanksgiving until the 8th of December. But I'd be remiss, nonetheless, not to wish you a day of good company, family drama which always seems present, and of course elastic waistbands. May your gravy be unfit for a game of Jacks, your potatoes be mashed to perfection, and your turkey not be cooked to a meatless rack of dry bones. Happy Thanksgiving, y'all.

Pecan Pie for me!! My mom's was the best. Too bad she has dementia and can't recall the recipe. But, hey, I love pecan pie so much, I will even eat a store bought one.

I think I agree. I love it with coffee and conversation.

@TheHorse I love pecan pie or frozen blueberry pie (another recipe that my mom did best) with coffee and good conversation.

Pecan pie has always been a love it or hate it kind of a thing. Too bad the recipe wasn't written down somewhere.

Why the delay? Or is it combining an early Christmas celebration?

@BarBaraPrz We're still working out the details, but I think a preliminary date will be December 28th. I need to know because we are hosting.

@porwest I should keep my radar for them here. Some international restaurants or bakeries offer them in special occasion

@rakski Around here you can get pecan pie anywhere and at any time. It's a popular pie, just not on my list of things to eat.

Pecan pie is usually a love it or hate it kind of a thing. As for pumpkin pie, I just love it.

I've never had pecan pie. Bravetart Stella Parks has a pecan pie recipe that she calls "murderously difficult". It is so challenging that she refuses to publish it but she will email it to people who ask. I have the recipe but have yet to attempt it.

Happy Thanksgiving to you as well, and I second pumpkin pie. I don't like pecan pie at all.

@porwest, Thank you! Even though we do not celebrate it here. Hehe. I kind of like pecan pie as well, but I prefer pumpkin pie.

If I were to call out a favorite when it comes to pies, it would be New York style cheesecake hands down.

I kindo like both. But I don't have that much of a sweet tooth. I'll try not to eat too much this afternoon.

My sweet tooth is pretty much gone as well. Used to have a big one. But no more.

I surprised my friend a few days ago when I told her I never had pecan pie before. I'm going to need to try it as I really don't like pumpkin. I hope your get together on December 8 is a good day for feasting and family.

We made the most of it, adding to our Christmas decorations outside we started last week and the wife even helped me clean up my man room a bit. Meanwhile, the Mississippi pot roast is cooking in the crock pot just about ready to eat.
