Family eating together

Looking at the present lifestyle of family members this scene of eating together has become rare
Each one will arrive at different times, fish out whatever they want right from the kitchen. Some will get into their own room, switch on the tv and enjoy their meal alone Some will switch on their mobile and interact with whoever that is out there and also enjoy their meal
Some will just call up saying not to wait as they will eat out
So many possibilities. Sad but true.

Pretty and I are eating dinner now. We're each in our own room. She's talking with her boyfriend online and I'm visiting with people on myLot.
When we were both younger, we did eat meals together but stopped ten or more years ago.

I am glad that you give value to it and hope when your kids are on on their own they will do that too in their own homes.

@allknowing I have seen households that do not cherish eating together - as you have described. Everyone does their own separate thing - and eventually, it is no wonder the family members do not have a close relationship.

@much2say We had this habit right from childhood. Despite that relationships have turned sour here and there.

We have always sat down together as a family during my 37 years of marriage.
The only times that we didn't was when my husband had to work the afternoon shift, and then he would call me when he was in the cafeteria on his lunch break, and I would have my supper ready for when he called.
When our son had soccer practice or games in town, we would sometimes eat out as a family at a sit down restaurant before the game. That time together is special.

That was touching that your husband called you from the cafetaria at lunch time.
They say a family that eats together stays together.

When any of my family is together, we eat at the table. No phones or whatever. We actually converse and eat and spend a bit of time together. We always shared our meals together, it's a special time.

It is a special time and a place to exchange news of what happened in the day with each other.

@MarieCoyle I remember waiting for father to arrive from work so that we all could sit together It was a large table and father had a fixed place. We wanted to sit next to him as he had the habit of picking something from his plate and put it on the child's plate that sat next to him on the right side (lol)

It is a time to be together, and as you say, catch up with each other. Our family always ate in the kitchen or the dining room, but not in bedrooms or wherever. It's just not something we ever did growing up, and we just continued on with eating together.

@allknowing It's just me and my husband and we are both retired, so yes, we eat together.

It's not always that we eat together like other families. We eat anytime we want without need to wait for others

Any problem why you cannot eat together on a daily basis?

meals were "sacred time" in my family. we would always wait for each other and when we're eating - there are no distractions. i hope to have the same tradition with my own family someday.

It indeed is a 'sacred time' what happens at the dining table while the family gets together

My Father studied in military school for a brief time. Well, he had a strict discipline when it came to timing. So , we used to have our breakfast , lunch and dinner together at a predefined time. It was mandatory to have the breakfast ,lunch and dinner together and not at different times unless there is a super duper reason. And well everything had a timing ,routine and order. That discipline did stick to me and well I too had that for a long time. There are times, I do out of way with odd times having food , especially when alone. However, I try to have that and with near and dear ones, I do have food with them and not alone. Well, it is fun to have food with others in company! Enjoy the day!
