A trifle not to be trifled with

The photo shows the magnificent trifle that my sister-in-law made for our Christmas dinner. It was delicious. The glass bowl showed off the various layers nicely but there was way, way too much for four of us. The Swiss roll slices line the outside of the bowl and there are peaches inside that with different coloured jellies topped with thick custard, more jelly and slivered almonds. We took what wasn’t eaten to my niece’s next day and enjoyed another serving or two. There was twelve of us for Boxing Day but there was still plenty for all of us.

When you don't have a dish too often, then it does become very special.

I've put on a good few pound over Christmas and New Year. And now we're taking a friend out for Chinese tomorrow for her birthday.

It does look really delicious. Trifles aren't that popular here for some reason..our loss! Maybe I should try making one sometime.

Pavlovas don't seem to get too many mentions here either.

You need a glass bowl with straight sides for the best results.

I love clear glass bowls so you can see all that goes into making things. This doesn’t look very appetizing to me though but glad you enjoyed it. I think the jello is what turns me off to it.

@JudyEv oh that’s interesting. Jam here has seeds and stuff in it usually and I don’t like it.

You probably wouldn't like it if you don't like jello. We call it jelly and your jelly we call jam.

@judyev What’s Christmas without trifle? That one looks quite sumptuous.

It takes a while to make as you have to wait for the different coloured jellies to set.

Loved the title! It is the biggest trifle I have seen, so maybe is has moved ahead of the traditional. If I go to a pot luck meal I often take a trifle. It always get a good welcome. It is an easy make and cam be done well in advance. i top mine off with whipped cream.

It's a huge bowl. I'm sure a trifle would always get a good welcome. This one might have cream under the almonds. I can't remember now.

My SIL is looking for a bit smaller bowl for next year. A container with straight sides shows off the colours better.
