The Happy Birthday Song

Happy Friday everyone! it's cold here this morning with possible snow overnight. They're saying only a coating to a mere few inches so that shouldn't be too bad. Today is my oldest grandsons birthday. He's 29 yrs old and is engaged, has a full time job and his own apartment. Does he need his grandma to call and sing the birthday song to him? of course he does My mom started this tradition many many years ago and we've all heard her sing on our birthdays. My uncle (her brother) still calls me and sings to me on my birthday. It always makes me smile even though he can't carry a tune. I've embraced this tradition too and call my kids and grandkids and sing to them on their birthdays. It may sound silly but it's a family thing. Do you have any family traditions that have gone from generation to generation?

You bet! Worthless trivia: “Happy Birthday” was written here in Louisville. (Shows you our level of “excitement.” )

I absolutely love that! I can’t think of anything similar my family does, but it sounds like a tradition worth starting. Happy birthday to your grandson!

happy birthday to your grandson! i'm sure he'll love the birthday song we have similar birthday tradition - we're singing the song in the morning and waking the person up. when we're apart, three members of my family call me and sing it to me or i call and sing the song to one who's having birthday

Happy birthday to your grandson! We do not really have any particular family traditions. We just follow some Chinese traditions during Chinese festivals.

Happy Bday to your grandson. Just some of the usual ones like stocking presents which need to be opened first, at Christmas.

Happy birthday to your grandson! One of my brothers has a birthday two days after mine. (Mom was still in the hospital with me on his birthday... Dad bought him a cupcake for his birthday and sang happy birthday to him.) He and I call each other and sing happy birthday on our respective day. I always teased him that I'm older than he is because my birthday comes first.
