What Screwy Sentencing is This?

Today Donald the Putz Trump was sentenced in the 34 count hush money case in Manhattan. The conviction is a Class E felony and is eligible for a penalty of up to 4 years in jail as well as several thousand dollars for each count. Judge Juan Merchan instead issued a "unconditional discharge" which will mean no jail time, fine, community service or probation. The judge said "this insures no encroachment on the highest office of the land". So the case is over, the conviction stands, and no other conditions are attached except that he is a felon. This is a highly uncommon sentencing. I wonder what can happen if he is ever charged again. ¿???????????????????????????????¿

We are marching/have marched toward faschism. The rich get off. The poor working stiffs pay.

I know....we had a case last year...hit and run under the influence of drinks...by an underage driver, with no license...killing two techies...with oh so many witnesses. They tried to use DNA of relative to show this kid was not driving. They tried to get a driver to take the blame. The judge gave bail, with only condition that the kid do some imposition. Really? When judges are so lenient, will the crime rates come down? It also gives poor the justification to take law in their hands. Judges can go wrong if the logic does not strike them. But going wrong in such conditions is like laughing at the pain of folks of the techies. In contrast, a young lawyer accidentally drove over somebody killing the person on spot, she stopped her car, and surrendered to the police. That ...to me is a person who deserves lenient punishment.

@vandana7 I am glad that this is being universally exposed. there has always been separate laws for the rich and the poor, for the black and the white. America has a greater propaganda machine than North Korea. When someone experiences this kind of unfairness in America, no one believes it.

@jaylar We in India have another issue. The religion issue. Muslims ruled over us and they committed some crimes. The present generation seethes in rage against those crimes. But hey, do we have a record of all crimes committed by Hindus against Hindus in the past? After all, there were wars between Hindus. Take a look around you. How many Hindus get along with their Hindu relatives are not wronged by them? Then why hate only the Muslims...likewise, Muslims too feel insecure and group against Hindus. In crimes, it is easier to convict the Muslims because of the prejudices. This only antagonizes the community. So....we need to really grow up...beyond Hindu Muslims, beyond genders, beyond rich poor, beyond races....and serve only the goddess of justice.

How about charging that judge with a travesty of justice?

It is weird judgement ...and bad precedent for other judges as well as other countries in the world that look up to the US as a champion of democracy.

That's why e ran for office, and had that judge not let him off, he'd be out of work.
