It was a long day

Have I mentioned my washing machine is dead? It is. I am choosing to do some hand washing and my plan was to check out a laundromat or two. So the plan was that immediately after work today we would go to Newton for gas, groceries, and to check out a laundry we had an address for. I took one large load of mostly towels, and socks. I just wanted to see if it was clean and in good repair and if it would cost an arm and a leg. My dryer still works, so I only need to do the wash. I was very positively impressed by the facility I found. It was clean, spacious, and the machines were not too expensive to use. I will be saving money to buy a new washer in the spring. Meanwhile, I am content to do my wash here. Bob went and bought Subway sandwiches for us while I sat at the laundry. I will use this laundromat because it satisfied what I wanted in the way of washers and price, etc.. Probably after church on Sunday since we already will drive to Newton for church. With just the two of us we do not go through a lot of laundry. I left the house at 6:45 this morning, and it was 7:45 this evening when we returned, brought in the laundry and groceries and put the cold stuff away. The weather was mild today and Bob shoveled a little. A neighbor came and helped him. He now has all the cars out of the snow banks. The truck needs to get its battery completely charged so it will move. Looking at the forecast coming up, we will have a few mild days.

I’m glad you found a clean location that is a decent price. It costs a fortune anytime I’ve had to use a laundromat. Must be a relief to finally get all the cars out of the snowbanks.

Getting the cars moved is nice. Hubby does not change clothes a lot, so we do not have a lot of laundry. I use the oversized machines and it is more economical. I am not taking any bedding, although I have some to wash. It will wait.

@GardenGerty our machines aren’t very big . I love those giant machines at the laundry mat you can fit so much in and get it all washed so much faster.

I hope you’re able to get a new washer even sooner than you think.

You know, I am not bothered by not having one. I would rather have a dishwasher purchased before hand. Right now, the way the snow and muck is we would not be able to have one delivered and hooked up.

From what I see, you actually have a very long and productive day. I am thinking for the washing machine and dryer, will you be considering the option of trading away your dryer and to get a two in one machine?

I will sell the dryer I have and then get a stacked unit that is more to my liking and it will take less space.

Sorry your washer bit the dust. I use a small “portable” washer and air dry the clothes. (The washer has a spinning feature to get the water out.) Hope you find a new washer to your liking!

Oh, I know exactly what I want, it is a stacked unit but not front loader. It is also not computerized or high efficiency. I have drying racks and an extra rod in my shower. In warm weather I have a big old clothesline.

Our washing machine stopped working last week. I needed clothes washed and Pretty had a full laundry basket so we drove to a laundry mat I remember seeing a few blocks away... It had closed permanently... So we went online and checked to see if Aurora had another laundry mat. Luckily, there is another one on the way to Walmart... I had to call and get our car jumpstarted this afternoon. The mechanic told me to leave it running for half an hour and it should be fine. We went to Walmart and I stayed in the running car while Pretty did our shopping. We went to the laundry mat and did laundry... Then had to call the mechanic to jumpstart our car again. Luckily, he didn't charge us again. I'm worried the car needs the alternator fixed or changed now.

Oh no. You just had work done on the car. I pay a little bit on my car insurance and have jumpstart and road service coverage. A guy I talked with while doing laundry said there is a newer one, that is much more expensive in another part of town. This one is clean and the machines all work. I do oversized machines and then will dry them at home. I always found the dryers to be more damaging to my clothes and cost a whole lot more.

@GardenGerty We just got caught back up on bills after getting the radiator replaced. We have emergency road service. I think I pay $1.36 a month for it. So we get paid back for having the car towed or jumpstarted. We dried our clothes at home, too. We didn't even look to see how much the dryers at the laundry mat cost. We only saw a young lady who runs the laundry mat. Nobody else was there.

I'm glad you found something you could use. Having a machine break is the pits.

Appliances just do not last like they used to. I could use an upgrade all the way around.I bought this washer and dryer pair new about 9 years ago, but I have never felt that the washer worked really well or cleaned really well.

I am sorry you have been so sick. We were snowed in, unable to get any of the cars out into the street due to ice under the snow and then the snow plow blocking our drive. We had three snow days in one week. Cover up and stay warm!!

Me too. The one in the town where I work is run down, but the machines cost the same or more. This one is not new or fancy, but it is clean and the manager is there frequently. The only other customer there speaks very highly of him.
