I am a redhead. I find that 2% of the world's population are redheads. There is a lot of folklore about them. They are temperamental, their witches, the are somehow tied to the devil and, they turn into vampires when they pass on. (That last one would be okay). But, we redheads have the rarest hair color in the world. Here are some more interesting facts about the redhead: * It is a recessive trait that is inherited. Both parents must have this gene variant for them to give this to their offspring. * Red hair and blue eyes are the rarest combination. The odds of having this variant is about 0.17% which is about 13 million people in the 7.6 billion people on the earth. * Because redheads have higher levels of the reddish pigment pheomelanin they are more susceptible to getting damage from the sun. * Female redheads have a higher risk of gynecological cancers such a cervical, uterine and ovarian cancers.
