Customer Service is Dead

I used to be a customer service representative for companies such as Sears, AT&T, HP, and several others. I was taught at the phone company first. We were to sound professional, to talk into our headsets so we could be heard and understood, and like we actually wanted to be there. I worked in CS for over 30 years. That being said--
I had to call the cable company today. I did get a person right away and didn't have to wait on hold at all which I appreciate. The woman I got was Tashay. She sounded like I had just awakened her from a long winter's nap and she wasn't happy about it. Half the time I couldn't understand her and, I wouldn't have been surprised if she yawned at some point. I concluded my business and sat thinking about it. Another addition to my ongoing assimilation into this dead country. Nobody cares about the country, their fellow man, their jobs-- NOTHING! I am so sick of this negativity, disgust, disrespect, hostility, and down right morose behavior. Today I am honestly happy that I am at the ripe old age of 74 and that I won't be around much longer. I hate to think what is going to become of this country I love. It saddens me and it sickens me.
Happy Spring everyone!

@celticeagle A woman in Esperance (where we used to live) had terminal cancer and has just passed away through VAD (voluntary assisted dying). That's what we'd be hoping for if things got really bad - healthwise, I mean.

Thank you, I feel the same way.
However, that is a lovely photo to brighten the day.

It's sad that no one cares anymore.

And those that do are overshadowed by those that don't. Ugh!

Yes, AI is great but it makes me wonder how extreme it will get.
Thanks. I wanted to do something springy.

After trying an online chat and talking to a robot I no longer complain if something goes wrong I just move along to another company if they have actual people and actual emails to explain things,

Gone are the days of actual people manning the company phones.

It makes me sad as well. Sad is the best word. I could add resigned. Or even angry. This morning I ordered my pain meds. I got the usual bot. I answered the bot questions asked, but the bot wasn't working right. Eventually I had to enter everything on my phone keypad. I never did speak to a human. Some of our younger people do not even remember talking to service representatives who (speak our native language and) wish you a good day. I know that social anxiety and depression are increasing among the young, but I am surprised it is not even worse than it is.

I like to talk to an actual person. It is hard for me to get used to bots and the phone trees. Our young people can't even write cursive. And, who knows what the schools of the future will be like with the DOE going down the tube soon. It's all so weird to me.

Some companies still care and make sure their employees are giving the best service but the ones that outsource, pay low etc. don't. I had to call Kohls about an order not arriving and the rep was so broken and spoke so fast, I asked her very politely to transfer me. Before transferring me, she told me "you bad person, I speak well."
I heard that plain and loud. I finally got another person that read (was obvious) telling me what to do if an order didn't arrive. I told her that is what I was doing. She asked what I wanted her to do.
After an hour of back and forth and research, finally found it was stuck in another state's facility due to weather and just wasn't updated in the tracking. I told her thank you and she hung up. I was stunned since I was nice even when I began getting annoyed.

What a weird experience. I had to call someplace the other day, I don't recall where now, but first I got a regular-speaking person and the next time I called it was a foreign person with an accent that was very hard for me to understand. Very annoying. I was taught customer service back in the early to mid 70s. Nowadays I don't think there is any training. They don't care.

@celticeagle It's not so weird anymore. My son was on the phone about a product and the man was very rude.

I know what you mean that a lot of people are what my late mom would call 'Poor Devils" since they do not appreciate the freedoms that they have in our nation not to mention that they are not happy with that they have.

They are selfish and self-serving. They don't care about others. Workers put in their time and do nothing in doing a good job, just a job.

Customer service in this country sucks. I worked in CS for many years and would never treat customers the way they treat them today AND you can't understand them.

Yes I think attitudes have changed towards customers. I think a lot more stress in the workplace could be to do with it

Yes, but that doesn't give a rep the right to take it out on customers who are paying their checks.

I am annoyed with chatbots that have replaced the actual human interactions. They don't understand the requirement and make us answer the same set of questions in a loop.
It's sad.
Happy that you have shared such a beautiful and cheerful picture

Wow what a bright and colorful picture!
You are right, people are losing professionalism and basic empathy these days.
