My cousin gave us some fresh white perch and catfish yesterday and we fried it today. He loves to fish and this is a great time of year for it.
He suggested something that we decided to try. Dale marinated both kinds of fish in Texas Pete hot sauce for a few hours, then breaded them as usual in plain yellow corn meal with salt and pepper.
I love spicy foods, Dale doesn't like them as much, but these fish turned out delicious. They had just a taste of hot sauce, probably would be even stronger if we marinated them longer.
Have you ever had fish cooked with hot sauce? It was a first for us, but we really liked it.

I am not a huge fan of fish, but no. If it was mild enough I might not have minded.

I'm thinking the fish was even a little crispier, but maybe not.

@1creekgirl That's our situation. I love hot and spicy, but have to watch it sometimes with my acid reflux. My husband can't do hot and spicy at all. He also has acid reflux.

@kareng Dale can get really bad acid reflux, too, so he has to be careful.

I would like it even hotter, but Dale probably wouldn't.

I can’t eat hot sauces in any form as I am allergic to them. Fish always sounds good to me. I’m not crazy about catfish, but I love perch!!

I love them both! I was really surprised how good they were with the little bit of hot sauce.

I have baked fish before with mild salsa on it, which is really good.

I love fish but can't stand hot-spicy food or fish
the smell of hot sauce & peppers stop my breathing.

@2ndchances24 MOST people I know who like spicy food ONLY like it in the hopes I will be amazed and say, "Wow, how do you eat that?" so they can lie and say, "It's not that hot," while they stuff their faces with lava. lol

No we mostly add spices and let it simmer and cook..there are other kinds of preparation...with poppy seeds paste and steaming in banana leaves with the spices infused and other stuff...many ways of cooking fish.
