I sometimes get stories from Quora sent to me in my email. I saw one last night of someone who swallowed a pea, which went down the wrong way and lodged in her lung. Her lungs got infected, and she had to go to the hospital. Bottom line she lost part of her lung!! Someone else had terrible recurrent problems from getting a popcorn kernel stuck in her lung. I never heard of such things. Be very careful eating things that don't dissolve like those, raw vegetables etc. You can Thank me for making you paranoid.

@snowy22315 My husband is a very slow eater. I am trying to slow down because I hate to finish everything a lot before he does.

You would think a pea would dissolve, but apparently not.

I love peas and never thought about one going down the wrong way. I feel bad for that poor lady but do appreciate the PSA so next time I eat peas or popcorn I'll be extra careful.

@JudyEv I can relate. Sometimes rings seem to get caught in my throat, and I need to drink some water. It's a weird feeling.

Stories like this make me even more cautious. My mom, she would often choke while eating, and I really worry that food might end up in her lungs.

Sometimes, when I swallow I feel like food gets stuck in my throat and I need to get a drink.
