The photo shows a well on the farm where I grew up. It’s rarely been anything but full for over 100 years. You might be able to make out the stonework lining the well which has stood the test of time really well. Vince’s brother is on the left and the owner of the farm on the right. His wife is my cousin.
Water is pumped from the well to sheep troughs. Power for the pump comes from solar panels. It is a long time since I visited the farm and much has changed. My parents sold the farm over 50 years ago so there have been a lot of changes in that time. But the well just keeps on supplying water.

I have responded on other post on well inspired by this one of yours. The well in my parental home is almost 120 years or more old and it has supplied water for more than a century. That's incredible!!

@JudyEv It has never given an issue and still the water levels are good, no sign of it giving up in any near future unless there is some natural catastrophe.

@JudyEv I quote a news story that shows the solar power potential in Australia.
"The Australia-Asia Power Link (AAPL), also known as Sun Cable, is a proposed project to export renewable energy from Australia to Singapore via a 4,300 km undersea power cable, according to Wikipedia. This would be the world's longest undersea power cable, exceeding the current record holder by a factor of five. The project aims to deliver 6.4 GW of solar power from a large solar farm in Australia's Northern Territory to Darwin, and then onward to Singapore, with a capacity of 1.75 GW being sent via the undersea cable."

@JudyEv We had a well too. In summer we would bathe there. Mother would draw water and pour it on us. It was fun. That well can no long be used as it is contiminated with the drainage close by

@allknowing That's a shame about the contamination.

Having this kind of well with unlimited supply of water is a good thing to have. I can only hope that the place where I am currently assigned will also have a good source of water as it is one of the major concerns in several villages in this area.

That's nice that the water is so close to the surface there that the well could be dug by hand back in the day...
You might remember that I grew up on the same farm mom's parents owned when she was a little girl. The well on the farm was over 700 feet deep and had to be sunk by machine to reach water. The last time I drove by the old farm, the new owners were still using that well.

@JudyEv True... It's hard to grow crops or raise cattle/horses without access to water.
