Drama drama drama at work today

And it was all over the spectrum--students, former student, teachers, secretaries, etc. Yesterday the secretary that does coverages texted to ask if I could do a bathroom duty coverage this morning. I said yes because I take them all. I like to keep both her and my bank account happy. This morning as I walked in I heard her on the PA asking any teacher available 1st period to call her. I was like UGH! Hall duty pays $22 for 40 minutes while class coverages are $44 for the same 40 minutes. She must have made that announcement like 3 times and each time I was scowling at the speaker. The supervisor saw me setting up the computer and unlocking the bathroom doors the last time she did it and my frustration. He laughed. Next was the news that a former student who was highly-recruited had signed with FSU. That in and of itself isn't anything amazing but it is after he had already committed to Penn State during his junior year, decommitted from them, then committed to Rutgers and somehow finished his senior year in December so he could start training with the Rutgers team in the spring semester, and then he entered "the transfer portal" whatever that is which meant that he was looking to transfer to another school to play football there. There was some set time limit for a team to pick him up and apparently he signed with Florida State University in the nick of time. Then the news got around that a student involved in a horrific car accident last month that killed 2 people in the car they hit had returned to school. He wasn't driving but it was his car and they were doing 110+ hours down a major highway with the headlights off at like 10pm. The driver didn't have a license and the owner of the car (said student) videoed the cops chasing the car and can be heard cheering on the driver. The video was on FB for like a day (because the kid was live-streaming the chase) until it was taken down. The staff got an email before spring break saying that he might return and sure enough he did. Honestly I'm shocked. I get that it is his senior year and the last 1.5 months of that but WOW. There was an epic fight between 2 science teachers over the locked staff bathroom today. I don't understand the issue--get a freaking key from the office. I keep my keys on a caribiner and just have them hooked on the loop of my pants all day. Sure everyone can hear me coming and going but I also can use the bathroom whenever I need to. I think there was something else but at this point I'm too tired to remember it. Administration really needs to start providing aromatherapy and soothing music for that place. It seems that everyone is melting down and tomorrow is only May 1st.
