I admire the work of Asheville North Carolina Jay Bettencourt who was awarded by his superiors at the Asheville Fire Department at the annual awards ceremony at the Harrah's Cherokee Center in Asheville on Thursday May 1. Jay and a fellow firefighter named Corey Bass answered an emergency call during Hurricane Helene which hit area in late September 2024 when a man was trapped inside of his auto that was in a river. Jay and Corey were able to rescue the man who was inside his auto when they used a rescue boat to get the man to safety. Jay was awarded with the Medal Of Honor for his efforts of rescuing a man who was needed his help. The best part is that Jay claimed that he was doing his duty and he does not claim to be a hero. Stories about people caught in the water always make me cringe. I am so afraid of the water nowadays. How brave this fellow was and I commend him for his work.

Those first responders are incredibly brave to do some of the things they do.

I think sometimes we forget how brave these people really are for risking their lives.

Well, if firefighting is just about putting out fires, Jay did far more here than just doing his duty, as he went far above the call of duty here alone.
