Telltale signs of a Pope's thinking is governed by their choice of life and living While the late Pope Francis chose to live in a simple apartment Pope Leo XIV has chosen a posh apartment While the late Pope Francis wore a silver cross round his neck, Pope Leo XIV has chosen a golden cross We will see more as time moves on What do you think?
Scrutiny about the way the latest pope might run the Catholic Church started the moment he stepped on to the balcony.

I can't imagine being watched so closely by millions of people. I hope this new Pope is spiritual and wise and leads from a loving heart.

We will have to wait and see what all he does to give him a ''certificate'

That he is not so "humble" as he wants people to believe, he loves expensive things.

He does not have a pious look as the late Pope Francis had.

He didn’t use the papal crown. No pope has used that since Paul VI, and he only wore it once. One thing I enjoyed was seeing footage of him at the White Sox game when they won the World Series in 2005. In the stands, like everyone else, enjoying the game.

What was his status in the year 2005 - was he a priest already?

@FourWalls I suppose in that status worldly pleasures are allowed. Let's watch him now There are so many priests that head the sports section in schools

@allknowing — yes. In 2005 he was Prior Provincial for the Order of St. Augustine in Chicago. Just a “regular priest” then.

I'm not Catholic so I don't think anything about it. Those two made different choices because they're different people. *shrug* It happens. I hope the new Pope is as nice a man as the last Pope was.

I read "Among the ongoing financial challenges facing Leo are a decline in donations from the faithful, rising staff costs and a fragile retirement system. Francis said last year the latter currently "cannot guarantee in the medium term the fulfilment of the pension obligation for future generations". Yes, simplicity goes a long way to make life easier.

May be that will change as this Pope may attract donations

I hope that the first thing he does is inform the world of what exactly occurred in Peru with the priest rumoured to have abused children.

I am aware of it and the role he played in covering it up. How will he face it now?

@allknowing I think the last few popes have faced similar situations.

I really do not understand the choice. Its not really for me to understand anyway because not religious, but if it effects me then it is for me to say. Just in case. They said he is the closest to carry out pope Francis's mission. It had nothing to do with Trump or America. How much I buy that I will wait and see. He is the first American Pope and that amazes me, like it is a statement to be honest.

@allknowing Indeed, I will say he is not on Trumps side. That will be a problem for America and the new Pope.
