Brandied Oranges for Mothers Day

A very happy Mothers’ Day to all mothers commemorating this day. I know Ireland and some other countries have a separate Mothers’ Day but our ‘Irish’ son will ring for sure. His phone reminds him of special dates. I’ve already received a card from our Melbourne son. Vince’s younger brother lost his wife just short of two years ago and we’re getting together with him and his daughter tomorrow evening for a meal at another daughter’s place where we’re house-sitting. There is an orange tree here which is loaded with oranges, so I’ve made brandied oranges for dessert. There is also Cointreau in the recipe. We’re having roast pork for our main course.

@judyev that sounds like a lovely meal. Perhaps you could send the recipe to all Greek chefs - another mediocre meal tonight. I’m going to have to switch my travelling loyalties back to France.

For a foodie, that must be a great disappointment. I like a nice meal but mostly I see food as something to keep body and soul together.

Your brandied oranges sound delicious. Italy celebrates Mother's Day today. When our Moms were alive we celebrated Mother's day and my husband's birthday together, as it always come very close.

It would have actually been Vince's mother's birthday today. She was born in 1906.

@LadyDuck Vince's father was born in 1900 and my mother in 1910. What a lot time ago that seems now.

Not for me, only tried brandy once and didn't like it and never tried Cointreau

When we were tiny and had a stomach-ache or whatever, we'd be given warm water with a tiny bit of brandy and sugar in it.

I'd forgotten that I'd need a dessert so having the oranges was a bonus - and a saving, although we did have to buy brandy. Luckily we already had Cointreau.

@LindaOHio We really enjoyed them. There was a lot of the syrup left over so I marinated more oranges through the day and we had them again tonight. The oranges don't have any seeds in them.
