Hiding in the garden

There is quite a bit of garden at our house-sit and with the weather being a bit hotter than it should be, I’ve been doing quite a bit of watering. Many of the plants are in pots. Some of the pots are quite large but others not quite so huge. From time to time, I come across unexpected delights such as this hibiscus. It’s a pale pink with a much darker throat. I was going to buy two roses to put in my front garden but now I’m tempted to plant hibiscus. There are some lovely colours available and you can choose single or double flowers.

That is a pretty color. It reminds me of miniature hibiscus I grew at our last house. They were that darker purple with white stripes down the petals. The stalks only grew around 2 1/2 feet tall with flowers along the upper 1/3 of the stalk. I keep wishing I'd collected seeds from some of them before we'd moved from there.

They would have been lovely. What a shame you didn't think about saving some seeds.

@JudyEv They were beautiful... I know, but they always came back on their own and I never thought about them when we moved. The guy that owns the house now has pulled up all the plants I spent money to buy and make that yard beautiful. He says a yard should be grass only, not all kinds of plants that have to be taken care of.

@DaddyEvil That's the trouble when you move. The next owner could have totally different ideas. I didn't like seeing our old place and finding out the Music Shack has been dismantled.

Plants in small pots immediately suffer if the temperature is a bit too warm. This hibiscus is beautiful.

@JudyEv - I remember that I had some plants in pots when we had to refurbish part of the garden, I had to water every day.

I keep checking the plants that are in small pots. They can dry out very quickly.

It had me thinking of an orchid, but then I am not much of a gardener!

I suppose it's a bit like an orchid. (I'm being polite here!)

That is the exact color of the hibiscus which bloomed for me some days ago. Sadly it closed up and fell off the next day.

I think this one is still there. We were away most of today so I'll have to look tomorrow.
