My sister and her oldest daughter, Amyra, took a sushi making class aboard the last ship on which they cruised. Amyra and I are the only ones in the family that like sushi, although my sister has attempted to develop a taste for it.
I never took Home Economics, but back when my sister took it they taught you how to cook if your parents hadn’t taught you already. My mom taught me, so I didn’t really miss out on that.
Have you ever taken classes on cooking or baking? Would you? A few of you, and you know who you are, could make a killing on your food if they had the time, energy, and money.

I learned to cook from my mom when I was 13 and took over the kitchen until I moved out at 18 years old. I also took Home Ec classes in school. When my Home Ec teacher found out I could cook, she started having me make stuff in class for the whole class to eat... I had fun in her classes.

They must have really enjoyed that special time together.
I think that it is great that your sister is attempting to develop a taste for sushi.
I remember very well taking home ec. classes in both grades 9 and well as 10.
I thought it was great fun because I already knew how to cook, thanks to my mother and my sweet Gramma, but doing it with friends was fun. And we learnt about nutrition, how to sew, how to do a household budget and things like that.
I remember in one of the 4-H sessions that I was in we learned to bake bread-that was amazing, and very fun although it did entail alot of work as far as the procedures went. As a 12 year old you don't know alot about kneading or how to feel the texture of the bread and how not to over work it. Things like that.
On this day, devoted to mothers and those that stood in place of our own mother when they were unable, I hope that everyone reading this visited or gave thanks for those special ladies in your lives-I know that I did.

As soon as I gave up working the first thing I did was to attend a cooking class and that is where I learnt to make a mince pie and a few other things.

I took intro to cooking as a freshman, but I self taught my self almost all the cooking I know how to do.
That's funny that they learned how to make sushi. I almost got grocery store sushi when we were out today.

@thislittlepennyearns I second that motion.
And unfortunately, no Publix. I hear good things about their stores.

I did start a class once, but didn't stick with it, or maybe I was just thinking of taking the class. The only thing I remember for sure was that it involved Peach Kuchen

Vince has enjoyed a few cooking classes. He said he met his ideal woman at one of them. The class was for men only but the lady helped in the kitchen, doing all sorts of preparations and eventually washing all the dishes. But the clincher for being the perfect woman was that she didn't speak at all!! I chased him with a rolling pin after that little comment!

A funny little tidbit...my mother was a horrible cook but an outstanding baker. My parents and I used to eat out a lot...until I started cooking. My father really liked my cooking; and they stopped going out to eat as much.
