Vatican in a Financial crisis?

With the election of a new pope, much is still to be expected from Rome. Eyes of the world have not yet left the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church. Journalists still have their noses sniffing for more from Vatican. Some sources alleged that the new pontiff has a challenge of dealing with financial problems in the holy city. I personally was shocked to learn that such a religious organization with huge following, institutional investments and ready sponsorship globally can find itself in a financial quagmire. Unless the reports were from garter press, then could the catholic church’s headquarters be in a financial crisis?

The Vatican (and the Catholic Church) are in a financial crisis because the huge decline in donations. Not surprising when we know about what happened and that the priest were "covered" instead of being punished.

@SIDIKIMPOLE - Many rich people decided to stop donating. I think that the Catholic Church did not do enough to stop Priests abuses.

I think so. Nobody can be comfortable donating to a scandalous institution after all

@LadyDuck Sure.. Should it have done something to stop priest abuses, then the confidence donors had in the church would not have reduced.

No, it is true. People are not donating to the Catholic Church anymore because of the scandals.

@JudyEv I am not surprised a bit. In the past weeks the Italian newspapers are talking a lot about a teenager who disappeared years ago. Several witness testified that she was kidnapped to be "used" as a slave by important Cardinals in Vatican City. I still remember when she was kidnapped in Rome. Her father worked for the Vatican Bank.

I would hope that this financial issue has to do with reorganizing after the new pontiff takes over. There always seems to be some financial issues when such things take place.

I don't really pay attention but really with the economy being what it is right now, I can imagine quite a few people that wouldn't normally be in financial distress now being in it. The economy sucks right now and I think it's starting to effect everyone now.

I think the Catholic Church globally might be having a financial crisis. I think they have paid out multi millions in compensation to people who were abused in their care or by their priests.

@SIDIKIMPOLE I have no idea why people of God would ever do this in the first place but it seems it happened an awful lot.
