Continued from previous Graduation post... I asked my grandson if he wanted to go to the Mexican Restaurant where we often go that is close to their house and he thought about it and asked if we could go to the Noodle House instead. I told him it was his night and his choice. So off to the Noodle House. The Noodle House is a Vietnamese Restaurant that specializes in Pho Noodle bowls. I have eaten there with them a couple of times and have to say it is just okay in my book. I would prefer a steak, seafood or Mexican above it, but this was his night and we wanted him to be happy. We got to the Noodle House and went inside. The hostess asked how many in party. We told her 5. She then informs us that she is sorry but the kitchen closed 4 minutes ago. What? Then why did you ask how many were in our party like you were going to seat us? The OPEN sign was lit up in the window and other people were inside eating. It wasn't even 9 pm yet. We told my grandson to make another choice and he went with the Mexican restaurant this time. We get there and go in and hostess greets us and my husband told him party of 5. He tells us that he is sorry but they close at 9 pm. The Open sign is lit up there too and people inside eating. I looked at my phone and saw that it was only 8:50 and told him that it wasn't 9 pm yet. He just said, "I'm sorry" again and we left. I'm beginning to think we won't get food at this point. So grandson next chooses Texas Roadhouse and we arrive there to find the parking lot jam packed. We parked and went inside to be asked to join a wait list. Wait time is about 30 minutes. Okay, we did that and went back outside to sit on a bench and wait. We got called at around the 30 min. mark only to find out that we were now in the Fast Wait List inside! Ha. That was another 15 minute wait, but we finally got seated. Our server was great and very apologetic for all of the confusion and crowd. I told her no problem, every other place is closed, so ya'll are going great feeding us all. There were several schools having graduations and this place was rocking! We finally got food, and the service was great. Does restaurants close up early in your city? This is a fairly large city and I was shocked! And one a FRIDAY night! You should have asked for the number of their corporate headquarters and the name of the manager on duty at that time. You can bet their headquarters would be VERY interested in them turning away customers before closing time.

The Mexican place is privately owned. The other place is a chain and they would have gotten into TROUBLE. My husband got mad at me because I questioned the man and saying it is not 9 pm yet. After I said it, he went and turned the OPEN sign off. If that is their common practice, they will be losing a lot of business.

@kareng I'd STILL contact the chain headquarters and tell them what time it was when you/your party arrived and exactly what was said to you. I'd be mad if a restaurant turned me away when it was before their closing time.

That does seem early to be closing up for the night.

Not sure what time the restaurants close around here actually, now that I think about it. I would assume around 10? But who knows? We don't eat out often enough, I guess, and if we go we're generally in one between 5 and 8.

It should be like that. Everyone doesn't have the same schedules, work times, etc. Need to offer services for all people, even if split work shifts or locations.
