I have enough checks to last two years

I don't remember the last place I ordered checks from, but it seemed I only had enough for about six months. I rarely write checks..just for the mortgage..and one place I shop doesn't take cards. Sometimes for stuff at craft fairs, or car repairs where they might charge more for card use. I have also used them at the grocery store if I couldn't find my debit card or something. Most months I just write one or two checks a month. Do you have any personal checks, or do you just use cards?

Cheques are rarely, if ever, used here.
I ordered some 8 years ago and still have the majority of them in the drawer.
The last time that I needed an actual cheque, I had to have a bank draft, or a cashier's cheque to pay for the car when we bought it a few years ago.
Debit machines are widely used here more than anything else, and it makes sense since money comes in electronically it might as well be spent that way also.

Checks are out of style these days, but I still find occasions to use them.

@Juliaacv I have written them for car repairs here. They put a 4 percent charge in credit cards. You never know when you might run into a vendor that doesn't take cards or puts a fee on them

@LadyDuck At DG sometimes the payment system goes down and it is cash or check only. Luckily, that doesn't"t happen often

@snowy22315 - There are no stores that accept checks, I always have cash with me, just in case there is a problem with the debit and credit cards. Three months ago all the card system was down in Switzerland, I was so happy to have cash with me to pay for my grocery and go back home.

I do have checks, but I haven’t used them in ages. I wouldn’t anticipate getting another box of checks in my lifetime, as long as I can keep paying the way I do (online or automatically).

@FourWalls My credit union does too, but I no longer have a checking account there, although I have other accounts.

I pay my mortgage in person, not sure what other way payment is accepted, but I like paying in person. They can't say they didn't get it or some such thing.

@snowy22315 — my credit union had my mortgage, so it was automatically deducted. Easy peasy. I certainly understand your position, especially considering how bad the post office is.

I have to write a lot of checks. Every week for my housekeeper, checks to contractors...I use quite a few checks. Everything else I either pay through the bank or put on the charge to accumulate points.

They come in handy, and are necessary sometimes.

I have checks (refill every couple of years), and I use them only to pay rent or if I am giving money to my church. I used to pay my rent online, but as the complex kept changing hands they each required a different way to pay. So for now, it’s checks.

There are times they come in handy, and times when they may be necessary.

I still use checks but, like you, only write one or two in a month. Pretty has moved our bills online and that was the main places I wrote checks before. Our landlady doesn't want checks anymore. Walmart still takes checks if I don't have cash but no restaurants here will accept checks anymore. I have to get cash for them.
While I worked at Walmart, we started ordering our checks through them. I haven't looked in a long time so don't know how many checks I still have.

I mainly use my debit card. But recently I got my uncle's name taken off the account finally. I asked the girl if I could get new checks with just my name on them. She ordered the checks for me. I just want them just in case I need to pay for a service that doesn't take cards.

Yes, I have run into those situations where places don't take cards or add a surcharge to them.
