Now they're stealing tires off of newer vehicles here.

The apartment complex where In live is pretty "chill." We have mostly young Indian and Mexican families here, and everyone gets along. But, as I have written about in the past, our mail boxes, bicycles, and vehicles are not safe. Tools are regularly taken from trucks, and bicycles disappear from balconies and even light posts they are tethered to. Even out-going mail is often stolen. Most recently, the bad guys have been stealing the tires off of newer vehicles. Imagine heading off to work in the morning and finding your Acura on blocks. I think it's a "professionals;" operation, as stealing four tires in one "visit" would be difficult for amateurs, especially someone working alone. Do you have a lot of thefts where you live?

@TheHorse - That is so frustrating. I'm lucky that I live in a retirement community. I have neighbors who are awake at all hours of the day and night, and they keep an eye out for anything that looks strange. When I was gone and my 22 year old grandson was taking care of my place, I let all the neighbors know so they would not report him for being "suspicious."

Understood. But I bet he is not a "suspicious"-looking guy.

@DeborahDiane I don't judge the younger generation by their looks! Tattoos and multiple piercings are in vogue.

@TheHorse - Well, my grandson is 22, dresses pretty casually, and has shoulder-length hair. To someone in their 80's, he might look pretty shady. However, he is a sweetheart, trims my shrubs, changes my lightbulbs, and takes care of lots of little chores for me. I didn't want some neighbor to complain about him while I was gone.

@TheHorse I didn't know they likes cat food. Maybe if I set some out they'll eat that instead of the eggs

No, here it is a small and quiet town, in Milan cars were never safe, not even inside a closed garage. They stole the tires of our Mini Morris car in the year 1978 in Milan... you see, this is nothing new.

I grew up in Chicago. There the thing I worried most about was street muggings. The "poor" kids were always after our bicycles and lunch money.

no. But many years ago my great-aunt had her house broken into. She has cameras now.

House break ins are not common here. In the suburbs, I mean.

No thefts here. Not even package theft. Knock on wood.

I had my packages stolen in a period of one minute a few weeks ago (it took me a minute to get to the door from when I heard the delivery guy and when I opened my door), but I know that was my long time neighbor. Until then my license plate had been stolen, and my car broken into (I had nothing to steal), but that’s it. That’s it?! Lol I mean it’s not what you’ve got going on at least. We get a few break ins, but those are mostly on the lowest floors where the homeless around can easily access. Good lord, I just depressed myself. The world stinks.

That is awful. We have a storage room here for each apartment. So we can put things in there. But, not tires. Luckily I no longer drive.

It depends which part of town when it comes to thievery. That being said, I had been here only a day or so and a neighbor told me to leave nothing- lawnmower whatever- sitting out in the yard. I never have had an issue. Perhaps I am naive or too trusting.
