Taxi!!

Over the past few weeks I’ve had good cause to take six or so taxi rides, something I rarely do. And I realise afresh that I’m a terrible passenger, riding along with my right foot on an imaginary brake pedal. Of course it doesn’t help that these taxi drivers in Athens, along with all other road users, drive on the “wrong” side of the road. Out of six drivers one was an inveterate nose picker, excavating up there all the way from Athens to Piraeus and flicking the product out the window. The rest were all religious, crossing themselves each time they drove past a Church, and to be honest I’d have preferred it had they kept the hands on the wheel and their eyes on the road. Two of them constantly rattled their rosaries throughout the trips they were responsible for. None gave us a free ride. Have you ever asked a taxi driver to pay attention?

I do not ask any taxi driver to pay attention while I am a passenger inside of a vehicle.

No, but in Australia I didn’t need to. In Mexico, I was too busy holding on with one hand, and plugging my nose from the body odor from the driver with the other. The driver didn’t really speak English, and my sister’s feeble Spanish barely got us to the destination. I still don’t know how we fit 9 people in that taxi.

It's nice to know that you can still get a taxi in your neck of the woods. In the area where I live (North Western US) all we can get is an Uber. They are not like a good old taxi. And, no nose pickers so far.

I haven't, but whenever George and I took Uber or Lyft somewhere, he would backseat drive, and the drivers weren't fans.

The only taxis I've been in have been medical taxis and I report on their driving every time we get home. (Their companies call and ask if I liked the ride, the driver, if there was any problems along the way and if I'd recommend them to other people.) I only gave a positive review once... The lady picked us up on time, drove fine without sudden stops or speeding and once she'd dropped us off, stayed with us until we got back home again, like they're supposed to do. They also aren't allowed to ask us for a tip when they drop us off. My insurance pays for the medical taxi and the company earns $44 per person, so they also get $44 when Pretty goes with me. That's PLENTY of money for the 24 to 60 mile round trips to my doctors' offices every time.

I rarely take taxis but I've taken two in the last year or so, returning from the hospital. It's a wonder that nose picker has enough brains left to drive the car...

I have never rode in a taxi. That would be scary when they are not paying attention to the road.
